IMG_3194Today on The Black Sheep Radio Show we have a special guest, and that is Chris Yeager of the one-man black metal project, “S.K.E.I.S.P.” (which is an acronym for Sargent Karate Everyone Is So Pretty). We will have Chris in on the show to talk about his new project, upcoming recordings being released, and also about the show that he will be playing tonight at Black Sheep along with Panzys, Fel Fae, and New Band.

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm every Friday on 88.3 WQNA fm on the radio. You can stream it online at the same time at wqna.org. Also check out our radio page where you can find links to a good chunk of downloadable episodes of the past.

Tonight we have an all-local showcase show happening at Black Sheep featuring four local bands, a lot of them being fairly new. Headlining the bill is the rambunctious punk act, Panzys. Panzys recently put out a self-titled release which you can stream on the player below. Before them is a newer two-piece (maybe three-piece tonight) instrumental band called Fel Fae. And before that we have the solo black metal band, “Sargent Karate Everyone Is So Pretty,” which was forged from our band lotto show last year. Opening things up is a very first performance by a brand new Springfield band, make sure to make it out to the show on time to catch that!

The show tonight starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything coming up at Black Sheep.

PROJECT SOUTHTOWN

southtownstillfighting

As many of you know, Southtown is made up of a number of volunteers and businesses that work hard to make a dream of having a music, arts, and skating community in an otherwise neglected area of Springfield. For as many years as Black Sheep has been around, we have been a dedicated group of volunteers who have never earned a dime for providing an all ages venue and safe space, but instead have poured out lots of our own time and money in order to keep what we have going alive.

In more recent months, the costs of keeping our spaces running and our buildings maintained have become more than problematic. Black Sheep itself is currently facing insurance costs that can not be met with our usual $5 cover charge, on top of hefty electric bills from our new heating/cooling system. Any upgrades to sound or minor changes to our space have had to be done out of pocket by a number of volunteers because the money taken in at shows simply is not enough.

We are quickly running out of options and new ways to try to stay afloat in Southtown and are constantly looking for more permanent solutions to ensure that we can continue for more years to come. At this time we are ready to start a new non-for-profit Southtown organization that will represent all of the Southtown businesses and our community. The goal of this new organization will be to preserve and better our side of town as well as take on new projects and improvements through grant writing and more organized volunteer work.

Forming a new non-for-profit however is not easy. In order to file as an official non-for-profit we will need close to $1,000 and also time to be reviewed. Because of these ever-growing costs of our mission, we can not pull off doing this alone. We are turning to crowd funding and a new Kickstarter campaign.

With your help this project will provide funding to:
– Cover the costs of fees to file a new Southtown non-for-profit organization
– Cover new high-risk insurance costs at Black Sheep
– Preserve and convert video footage from Skank Skate’s history

Our goal for this campaign is to raise a minimum of $5,000 in 60 days. This may seam a lot to ask for, but this is the minimum that we feel “Project Southtown” will need to get off the ground so we can take on new levels of neighborhood revitalization. We truly believe that with your help we can reach our goal and continue to raise funds to improve our spaces.

Looks like on Friday, May 29th we have a pretty nice rock & roll/punk show happening at Black Sheep. The Howl is a garage/punk rock band and you can stream some of their music below if you are unfamiliar with their tunes. Also playing this show is Space Alpacas, who might also be calling themselves “Swordless Mimetown?” Come to the show and find out what the band’s name truly is. And if all that is not enough for you, looks like this show also includes a solo set by the legendary Nighthawk.

The show will start at 7:00 pm and admission will be $5. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this spring/summer.

Tonight there is a killer five band show happening not just at Black Sheep, but bands tonight will be playing at both Black Sheep and Dumb Records. How are we doing that?! Well, one band is going to play at Black Sheep and then another is going to play at Dumb Records- but they won’t be going at the same time so you won’t miss a thing. This is also Kevin Bradford’s last show with us running things over at Black Sheep so make sure to come out and bring Kevin some coffee! Tonight we have Springfield hardcore/thrash band Diaper Rash, headlining over on the Black Sheep stage. Over on the Dumb stage we have one man band king, Evan Mitchell. Before that is the touring hardcore band from Milwaukee, Falter. Falter have come to Black Sheep a number of times before- you can check out their music streaming below. Before them inside Dumb Records is Daren Gratton of the band The Haddonfields. And opening things up is a brand new band called Leech Pit which we have been told features members of WARRS, Our Lady, Asthma, and Table Drama.

The show tonight starts right at 7:00 pm and admission is $5 for the whole show on both stages. You can check out a facebook event right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep.
