What a better way to kick off the month of November than a really weird showcase show happening at The Black Sheep Cafe. This show is happening on Saturday, November 1st and it features six bands- two from Springfield and four from St. Louis. The show is being called an Acid Kat Showcase show- the four St. Louis bands are affiliated with St. Louis based Acid Kat zine and record label. Acid Kat will also be participating in our November 15th South Town Record Fair. For this show we have Springfield hardcore band Asthma (who will also be playing tonight). For the St. Louis bands, we have Acid Kat ringleaders and wackos, Animal Teeth. If you saw Animal Teeth the last time they played in Springfield it may have been in some sort of glue tube. Next on our list is Dad Jr. from St. Louis. You can stream some of their music below. Acid Kat band #3 is a trio called Willis. And the last Acid Kat act is a performer called Tubby Tom, which we have been told is some sort of rap act. The show will open up with recently name-changed Springfield band, SAP.

There’s a show happening at Black Sheep on Friday, November 7th that you should all know about. It’s going to be a fun one. This will be The Locals’ first performance at Black Sheep since they blew us all away at this year’s Battle of the Bands back in July. There are also a couple of touring bands on this show. We have the melodic hardccore band Marigold (pictured above) coming from Kentucky for this show. You can stream their music below. They will be on tour with the post-hardcore band Sleep Weather from Georgia, who will also be playing this show.

There are all sorts of big business moves going on around South Town recently. Last week we announced that Dumb Records was taking over the Harm House’s “Record of the Night.” Today we are bringing you news of change happening right above Dumb Records. It looks like Empire Board Shop is no more, and a new skate shop being called “Boof City Skate Shop” will be taking it’s place in the same spot right above Dumb. What does this change mean? For one, the skate shop above Dumb Records will be under new ownership. With this change we have also been told that the new skate shop will be ran more in tune with Skank Skates (similar to the affiliation between Black Sheep and Dumb Records). The new skate shop will be kicking things off with a big grand opening this Halloween:

So Friday, October 31st will be the new Boof City Skate Shop grand opening. You can find the flier for the event above. Find a facebook event for this right here. Today we have a show announcement happening a little ways from now at the end of November. This one is happening on Saturday, November 29th. It will feature the Detroit hardcore/metal act Hollow Earth. You can stream some of Hollow Earth’s music on the player below. Hollow Earth will be on tour with hardcore/grind band KDC from New York and also the heavy Exalt from Ontario, Canada. All of that put together should be a real heavy show and a heavy time. Then we have a couple of local bands. We have the half-Springfield half-Central Illinois band Loses The Mighty playing. Opening the show up will be Springfield’s newest German-punk band, Milchjunge (which is German for Milk Boys).

Black Sheep is going to be hosting some more international bands this fall and on we have this great lineup of a show on Saturday, November 8th featuring a band from Austria. The band is Astpai coming all the way from Wiener Neustadt, Austria after they play this year’s Fest in Florida. Astpai will also be on tour with a band called Typesetter from Chicago. All of this will be joined by plenty of Springfield supporting bands. We have the young snot punk band Panzys on board to play. We also have a brand new Springfield band playing their very first show. That band is Milchjunge – which is German for “Milk Boys.” You can check out the very first recorded song from Milchjunge streaming below. Opening up this show will be the solo psychedelic project of Kenyon Deshasier.

In our steady stream of October show announcements this week, we do have a little bit of bad news. The bad news is that we will not be hosting NIL8’s Hobgoblinspookadelic this year. Want to hear the good news? The good news is that we still have a killer Halloween show lined up, so it’s time to dust off those old costumes from your childhood and get ready for our Halloween show on Friday, October 24th! Our Halloween show will feature a reunion by the legendary Springfield ska band, Don’t Mess With Winkie. The band started in 2006 and played their last show at Black Sheep Fest 2012 over two years ago. They will be doing a one-off reunion show for our Halloween show this year. Also on the show is another reunited band, Los Injectors. Los Injectors features members of NIL8. Also on this show is the extra-spooky newer Springfield ska band, Bad Banshee. And of course a Halloween show wouldn’t be fit without the slimy and beautiful hardcore punk band King Worm.

The Halloween show will start at 7:00 pm and cost $5. Wear a costume. Be on the lookout for a facebook event shortly. For now, check out our shows page where we have all of our upcoming shows listed.

We have some very exciting shows coming up here at Black Sheep this fall, including some where we will be able to feature more bands from over seas. Our last show featuring an international band was a great success, with Una Béstia Incontrolable crowning us “the capitol of punk.” This time we have a show on Monday, October 20th featuring two acts from France. Before we get into the French bands, we have Springfield instrumental shoegaze band Caterpillar Club playing this one. Come see them. For the French acts, we have one project called Tamagawa and another called Oldine. Come find out what those two are about at this once-and a lifetime opportunity of a show.

Are you ready to hear about the next show lined up at Dumb Records post-Cassette Store Day? This one is happening on Tuesday, October 7th. It will be a pretty chill, mostly acoustic show. We have two-piece Springfield acoustic folk band Wilt Candy playing. We also have a touring act from Massachusetts and that is Jerry Fels And The Jerry Fels. You can check out some of Jerrys’ music streaming below. Then we have another rare performance by Springfield video game instrumental band, Like… With Jetpacks. Opening things up will be a solo set by Jonathan San German.
