January 10th: Dumb Records 1 Year Anniversary Show

Dumb1yearanniversary

It’s hard to believe it, but Southtown record store Dumb Records is already nearing its one year of existence here in Springfield. The store opened up the weekend of January 10th and 11th this year in 2014. Now on Saturday, January 10th of 2015 we will be hosting a special show for Dumb Records at Black Sheep. Yes, this show is going to be at Black Sheep instead of Dumb Records because we want full rock bands to play and there will be other activities planned for inside of Dumb Records (to be announced later on). For this show we have a pretty good lineup of all local bands. Headlining the whole shebang is Caterpillar Club, the shoegaze-sludge project of Kevin Bradford, owner of Black Sheep. This show will also feature the second performance of the ten-person band lotto jazz fiasco going by the name of “International Mutant Orchestra.” We also have the return of Full Chroma, who’s last time playing at Black Sheep was for Black Sheep Fest 2014 back in July. Then will be the local band and Battle of the Bands champs, The Locals. And kicking things off we have Springfield rock group The Seething Coast.

The show at Black Sheep will start at 6:30 pm and the door price is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one soon. Dumb Records will also be open all day this day, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Right now we can tell you that there will be a 15% off sale on everything in the store, and there will be other surprises announced later on. Check out our shows page if you want to have a peek at other things coming up in Southtown in 2015.

It may still be November, but we are already ready to start talking about some of the big things that we have lined up in 2015 (the year of the sheep on the zodiac calendar). It looks like 2015 will bring plenty of fests and great shows to Southtown, starting with this “One Man Band Bonanza” that is set to happen in Springfield on March 13th, 14th, and 15th. Particularly March 14th the festival will be taking place at Dumb Records and at Black Sheep. December 28th at Black Sheep: Movie Screening + Paqui, Honey/Suck, SAP, King Worm

ummmmThe cold weather is bringing us some hardcore heat, as you can see by this double feature show and local movie screening happening in December. This Saturday night treat will start off with a show happening in Black Sheep featuring all local acts. Starting off the night will be the ever fascinating Paqui, who plans on taking us on an adventure with him through his set. Moving the night along will be Honey/Suck, which will be a whole hearted portrayal of emotions through spoken word and possibly musical accompaniment as well. Then, local contemporary punk band SAP will be playing some dance tunes for everyone to enjoy. To close the music portion of the night off will be King Worm, who will blow you away with their squishy spiker jams.

Come to Black Sheep Cafe on Friday, December 28th and enjoy the tunes of local Springfield bands. This will kick off at 6:00 pm; please bring $6 to support the local scene! After the musical portion of the night, make sure to head over to Dumb Records at 9:00 pm for a local movie screening! The movie is called Death Metal, directed by David Castor. This movie looks amazing: check out the trailer. It’s not very often that movie screenings–let alone local movie screenings– happen in these parts, so don’t miss out! This opportunity is a delicacy. For more heavy metal, check out this video below of King Worm playing Hobgoblinspookadelic to get a taste for what’s in store.

The show’s original lineup was Hollow Earth, Exalt, KDC, Loses The Mighty, and Milchjunge. Unfortunately the band Exalt is having to drop, but we have another band lined up for you. They are The Sheds, playing skater punk all the way from Agoura Hills, California. You can check out a sample of their tunes on the player below. The rest of the show’s lineup is still good to go, and we are excited to have The Sheds perform at Black Sheep.

The show on Saturday will start at 7:00 pm and the door charge is $7. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page to stay updated on everything coming up at Black Sheep.

On Friday, December 12th we have an awesome punk/metal show lined up featuring a reunion from an old Central Illinois metal band called DinyourA. It looks like the band will be playing this reunion show and is also working on a brand new EP. From the DinyourA facebook page:

Update time!!!!! First thing is first: We are working on finalizing the lineup for our RETURN show which is set to take place in early October [December]. Once we have that figured out we’ll be posting the details and flooding your newsfeeds with all of the appropriate ballyhoo and pomp that one would expect from such a momentous occasion. Second thing is second: We are *still* working on the new EP but unfortunately encountered a bit of a setback but that issue is looking to be resolved shortly. We’re all really looking forward to seeing y’all back on the road and for the next step in the DinyourA story to unfold!

DinyourA was active from 2007 to 2011. Also playing the reunion show on December 12th is the St. Louis band Trauma Harness featuring members of MTV’s Lumpy & The Dumpers and Cal & The Calories. You can stream some of Trauma Harness’s music on the player below. Last time Trauma Harness played at Black Sheep was the first ever Dumb Fest in June of 2013. Also on the lineup for this show is the Springfield punk band King Worm. We also have a first ever show for a new band called Space Alpaca, which features members of Panzys.

This show is going to be another 7:00 pm, $5 show so don’t be late. Looks like there is no facebook event or flier yet. Be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this winter.
