January 1st at Black Sheep: SAP, Kowabunga! Kid, Single Player, TANG

We are nearing the end of the year, and it is time to announce the very first show of 2016 here at Black Sheep! This year we will be hosting a show on the very first day of the year on Friday, January 1st. This show will feature the three-piece Springfield grunge pop band SAP. We also have some friends coming from Champaign! Most of you are familiar with the C-U punk band Kowabunga! Kid. They will be playing. Also playing and on tour this time around is Champaign/Urbana band Single Player. Stream some of their music on the player below. Opening things up we have a performance by Springfield’s newest weirdo-noise band, TANG (The Avant National Guard). Come early to find out what they are all about.

November 23rd at South Town Studio (Last Minute!): Holy Pinto (UK), Jessica Knight, Brandon Carnes, Peter Scott

The show announcements keep spilling in, and this includes a lot of last minute shows coming up! This one is happening this upcoming Monday, November 23rd at South Town Studio! The studio is putting together a last minute show for a touring musician from the United Kingdom, “Holy Pinto.” Check out some of Holy Pinto’s music below. Also playing this show are a few local acoustic acts. We have Jessica Knight of Looming doing an acoustic set. Brandon Carnes of Looming and South Town Studio will also be performing. Then opening things up we have Peter Scott doing an acoustic cover set of Saves The Day songs.

December 12th at Black Sheep: Firestarter, Alone At Heart, Undeserving, Lavender

The December show announcements are starting to roll in hard! Today we have an announcement for a show happening on Saturday, December 12th. This one will feature the touring band Firestarter from Albany, New York (pictured above). You can check out some of their music streaming on the player below. We also have another out of town band- Alone At Heart coming from Chicago. They play a type of melodic hardcore. Then we have two bands from the area on this show. We have Undeserving, who just released a few songs they recorded right next door at South Town Studio! Opening things up will be a performance by Lavender– the shoegaze band from the Springfield/St. Louis area.

Black Sheep Holiday Show December 18th with Hospital Job (LP Release), The Locals, SAP, The Suction Cups

We are approaching December here pretty quick, so it is time to announce the Black Sheep Holiday show happening on Friday, December 18th this year! This winter we are going to never get cold, because we will have Hospital Job‘s new LP, Never Get Cold to keep us warm and rockin’. The Black Sheep Holiday show this year will be the LP release show for HOJO’s newest and third album, being released on It’s Alive Records. Stream the band’s previous album, The Believer below. Also playing this show are The Locals, who were recently voted Springfield’s best “underage band” in the Illinois Times. Also playing is SAP who just released a split cassette less than a week ago. Opening things up is a newer Springfield band called The Suction Cups, who will be here to bring some spooky holiday chills.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. November 22nd at Black Sheep (Last Minute!): Mothersound, Set Fire To Salem, Vacant Skies

We have a little bit of a last minute three band metal show at Black Sheep we are announcing today! This one is less than a week away, happening this Sunday, November 22nd. For this show we have the Los Angeles-based metal band on tour called Mothersound. Check out one of the band’s music videos right here. Also on this show is the Springfield metal band Set Fire To Salem. Opening things up we have the three-piece metal project called Vacant Skies, also from Springfield.

The show will begin at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Come out even thought the show is last minute to show support for the touring band. Also check out our shows page for a good look at everything else we have coming up at Black Sheep in the coming months.

November 29th at Black Sheep: Dry Heave, The Suction Cups, Copper Blue

On Sunday, November 29th coming up here at Black Sheep real quick we are going to be having a three-band show featuring all bands that have all formed this fall. Some of those bands are based out of Champaign-Urbana including Dry Heave, who will be doing a little weekend tour. Dry Heave features members of Toad Omen and Soap Scum. You can stream their new demo below. We also have the new Springfield band The Suction Cups featuring members of Bad Banshee, Ragna Rye, and Fel Fae. Opening things up is a new band also from Champaign-Urbana called Copper Blue.

December 4th at Black Sheep: Earth Witch, Resinater, Orator

Looks like we have a show coming up in December where Champaign/Urbana metal bands are going to invade Southtown! That one is going to happen on Friday, December 4th. Earth Witch will be playing a show at Black Sheep to kick off a weekend that they will be spending recording a new hit album up in South Town Studio. You can check out some of the band’s previous recordings streaming below. Also coming with Earth Witch is the bass-heavy stoner/sludge band Resinater also from Champaign. The third C-U metal band on the bill is the doom-y sludge band Orator. That’s it for the lineup for now, possibly be on the lookout for one or two more additions to this show!

Happy November! We hope everyone had a safe and spooky Halloween last night. Now it’s time to get back to more November show announcements. This one is happening on Saturday, November 28th here at Black Sheep. This show will feature Jacksonville-based metal project Nethersphere. Then we have another metal project Green Messiah. The show will also feature the band Social Werq– a band from Michigan that we are pretty sure features at least one member of Chinese Happy- a band that used to frequently play Black Sheep a long long time ago in our earlier years. Stream some of Social Werq’s music on the player below. Then last but not least is another band from Michigan coming with Social Werq called The Gator.

November 11th at South Town Studio: Secret Tombs, No Brainer, The Suction Cups

It looks like we have another South Town Studio show lineup up for this fall! This one is going to be happening pretty soon on Wednesday, November 11th. It will feature three bands – one of which is Pittsburg Pennsylvania’s Secret Tombs who played here a little over a year ago. You can stream some of Secret Tombs’s newer material on the player embedded below. Also on a separate tour and also playing here for the studio show on 11/11 is a band called No Brainer from Milwaukee (pictured above). They play some type of hardcore/powerviolence. And then opening the show up we have a brand new Springfield band called The Suction Cups. We have been told the new band features members of Bad Banshee and Ragna Rye.

November 6th at Black Sheep: b00n, Tina Sparkle, Good At Sex

Wow last night was insane. Thank you to all who came out and made one of the most memorable nights in Black Sheep history. Time to get back to all of the other normal shows! Yes, we do have a show happening at Black Sheep on Friday, November 6th! It’s a nice 3 band show that will be pretty relaxing, maybe bring some hot cider and some friends. For this one we have the experimental/punk band b00n, who last played in Southtown for an aftershow for Black Sheep Fest 2015. Check out their “Southtown EP” streaming below. The out of town band on the bill for this one is Tina Sparkle from Peoria. Then we have a first ever show for a new Springfield band with a really dumb name- “Good At Sex.” Featuring members of Looming, Garter, and Bad Banshee? Make sure to come out and find out what that’s all about.
