Screen shot 2013-04-23 at 1.31.24 AM

Springfield emo/indie band Park have posted more hints of a reunion of sorts on their facebook page since we last mentioned the band was posting photos of band equipment earlier in the year. Yesterday Park linked fans to their band website: listentopark.com. The website does not give out much information, but fans might find more hints by clicking around and highlighting things on the page. Park has also mentioned that more likes on their facebook page may lead to more hints as to what’s going on. Stay tuned for any more information on any sort of news of what’s going on with Park this year.

June 14th at Black Sheep: RENAE REUNION

dumbfestflier2Woah woah WOAH!!! What’s going on here!?! It’s this late at night and there is a surprise announcement!?! Tonight we are bringing you news that is making all of us over at blacksheepspringfield.com headquarters jump out of our pants in excitement. That’s right, RENAE will be playing one reunion show at Black Sheep on Friday, June 14th as day one of DUMB FEST.

And now a message from Benny of Renae:

SURPRISE!

We’re doing a reunion! We decided to announce this early because its Brad’s birthday. Here’s my explanation of the situation:

So some of you may know that my brother, Adam, was a co-writer and the original drummer for Renae. He left our band after we wrote the Hell Follows EP and we continued on with our friend Kasey Rogers til we broke up.

We were tired and there was a lot of anger between us after years of struggling and being poor to do this. It wasn’t really fun anymore. Even though Kasey was a great drummer, it didn’t feel right writing without my brother playing the drums.

Adam is now married with a child and in the navy navigating a warship. On the rare occasion that he has been home we usually spend a few hours jamming. When he was home in february we got to talking and I realized a few big things. One, that renae was a really integral part of how we live our lives now, and two that without all the pressure, it is still really fun to play these songs. Last but not least, I realized that my little brother didn’t get the ending Stephen, Brad, Kasey, and myself got. He had to sit by the sidelines through most of the last show, and he was out to sea during the reunion.

After he left it started eating at me so I called the other guys. Brad lives all the way in Seattle and Stephen is down in St Louis. After a few conversations with everyone We realized that it would be a long shot, but Adam plans to be home for a week or so and so does brad – in june. Dumb Fest happens to be in June.

After several years have passed, the real question was would this be fun? Would people really come and have a fun night with us?

After the last few months of unending requests from our friends and fans asking us to get back together or record a new record, I started thinking it may be a good time to do so, if only we could… I also believe all of us are in a position to enjoy playing these songs together – and with the lineup that wrote the music.

It would mean the world to all of us if you would join us for a night. There won’t likely be another chance for us to do this again for a long time, if ever.

The show will be Day one of Dumbfest with our friends in Heavy Arms and Earthwitch, and Arrows In Her, a touring band who are friends with our friends Our Lady. (check out our lady!)

Tickets are up for pre-order for the festival right now at http://blacksheepspringfield.bigcartel.com/product/dumb-fest-2-day-pass

They are $10 per day or $15 for both days. As per usual we don’t want to turn anyone away so pick up a ticket in advance and make sure you are there!

It is with great happiness that we can play one more time – this time as friends – and for the pure fun of it.

thanks, and don’t forget to wish Brad a happy birthday!

Benny

Talk of Gunga Dins Reunion

216260_10150226773960395_3450632_nThere has been some recent speculation on the internet of a Gunga Dins reunion show particularly on the social networking site facebook. Chris Yeager formerly of The Gunga Dins posted this to facebook along with a link to this page:

yeah so if this page gets 100 likes, THE GUNGA DINS will play a reunion show, as an act of solidarity.

The page is a “Rally for a Rainer Maria Tour” and is currently at 43 “likes.” Rainer Maria was an emo band formerly from Madison Wisconson, and they were active from 1995 to 2006. If you would like to contribute to the likes of the page and increase the chances of a Gunga Dins reunion show, you can find that page right here. Viele’s Planet Reunion on 4/20 at Capital City Bar & Grill

483791_525456617494592_353923047_nIt is not too often that a musical event going on in Springfield sells out before we even have the chance to announce it! Either way, we feel it is important to mention that there will be a reunion show for Springfield bar and music venue Viele’s Planet at Capital City Bar and Grill on Saturday April 20th this year. The show is not taking place at Viele’s Planet, but bands that frequently played the old venue will be playing the show and some will also be reuniting for this one show. Viele’s Planet was important to the all ages scene at one point because they had all ages shows on Sundays. Bands playing the reunion show include Taxi War Dance, Lidlifter, Grim, UAT, Prone, Petcock, Midnight Dreary, Clone, Stronger Than Seven, and Swirl!

For the 500 of you that were lucky enough to buy tickets before they sold out, the show will begin at 3:00 pm. The show is also ages 21 and over. You can find a facebook event here. Also be sure to check out what other shows are coming up in Springfield over at our Springfield shows page!

Mother Leopard Announce Return From Hiatus

487074_498426016864578_1755464270_n

Mother Leopard announced their hiatus earlier this fall after playing some shows in Springfield with a heavy and instrumental 3-piece line up. Now they are announcing they are back and are being joined by vocalist Kyle Rohweder formerly of Peoria harcore band Black Teeth. From the band’s facebook page:

We played an impromptu house show last week and had a ton of fun, so we decided to have a little more fun.

We are back to writing and Kyle Rohweder(ex Black Teeth/Street Cheetah) has returned. When Mother Leopard formed winter of 2010 the original contributing writers were myself, Kyle Rohweder and Brad Pigg. After becoming a barber and a father, Kyle is in a place where he wants to kick out the jams again. Brad now resides in Seattle so the new lineup is set. The Mother Leopard is now myself, Kristian Kyle Ratliff on the drums, Jordan Fein on the bass, and Kyle Rohweder as a contributing writer and frontman.

It feels good after a few months (years) off.

expect some new shit soon.

-Benny

Well, I’ve been bitten by the music bug again recently and it looks like today will bring me a remedy. I’ll be Springfield bound in the next hour or so to jam with my old friend Benny DeWitt and company to see if we can finish what we started a couple of years ago. I can’t tell anyone what to expect, because we have no clue what this project will sound like, but I can assure all the punk rockers, rock ‘n rollers, indie nerds and hardcore kids that it will be entertaining and weird.
-Kyle

Mother Leopard will be playing the show on New Year’s Eve at the Harm House still as a three piece. Be on the look out for new Mother Leopard shows with Kyle as a vocalist.
