October 31st at Donnie’s Homespun: NIL8’s Hobgoblinspookadelic

Screen Shot 2014-10-01 at 12.07.38 AM

Earlier we announced our big Halloween show happening at Black Sheep on October 24th featuring Don’t Mess With Winkie, Los Injectors, Bad Banshee, and King Worm. NIL8‘s legendary Hobgoblinspookadelic will not be happening at Black Sheep this year, but instead just at Donnie’s Homespun. The date for that will be on Halloween, Friday October 31st. For that show there is another great local lineup. NIL8 will be playing (of course) along with long running Springfield punk band The Timmys. They will be joined by newer Springfield hardcore/punk/ska bands Bad Banshee and King Worm. For photos of last year’s Hobgob you can check out our Hobgob 2013 album on flickr.

All of that will be at 7:00 pm at Donnie’s Homespun (located at 107 West Cook Street) and the show is all ages. Admission will be $5. Find a facebook event for this right here. You can check out a list of this show and more upcoming Springfield shows on our Springfield shows page.

NIL8 Launch New Website

NIL8It has been years and years since long-running Springfield punk band NIL8 had an operating website- before it was NIL8.com. This month the band have launched a brand new site for the first time in years with plenty of features including fliers spanning the past four decades, as well as audio and video recordings of live shows spanning all the way back to 1985. The new site is www.switchdrops.com, named after a NIL8 song off of the album Hallelujah I’m Gonna Kill Myself. Here is a more in-depth explaination of what switchdrops.com is about:

Enter SwitchDrops.com — an unofficial source for all things NIL8. Right from the start you’ll find tour dates covering almost 30 years, downloads of live recordings, and a look at various pieces of NIL8 memorabilia. This is absolutely a work in progress with plenty of holes to be filled. If you’ve got something to contribute — evidence of a past tour date, a recording you made of a live show, a snapshot of a piece of memorabilia — just drop an email our way [or reach out via Twitter @swtichdrops] and you’ll be helping this site become a more comprehensive (and long-overdue) resource for NIL8 fans everywhere!

Check out the new website right here. Stay tuned for more information on NIL8’s annual “Hobgoblinspookadelic” Halloween show as well as a special Black Sheep Halloween Show to be announced very soon.

HOBGOB 2013: NIL8, Soap Scum, Looming, Execution Techniques, Orange Soda

hobslob

This year’s Hobgoblinspookadelic lineup is here! It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for! Get ready to be spooked! As we all know, Springfield punk legends NIL8 will be playing this year’s Hobgob, as they do every year. Other than NIL8, there are four other bands on the bill! The first of those is the rowdy punk/hardcore band Soap Scum! Soap Scum last played at Black Sheep on Friday, September the 13th and it was a very spooky show. Next we have Springfield’s newest indie/pop rock band that everyone loves, Looming. Looming played their first show at Black Sheep not long ago and it was great. Check out their new six song EP here. Another scary one we have on the bill this year is the harsh noise project Execution Techniques. To top that all off we have a fun punk band from Champaign called Orange Soda. We have been told the band features members of Dino Bravo and Kowabunga! Kid and are guaranteed to bring us a good time.

Hobgob is on Friday, October 25th this year. Costumes are encouraged, but you can do or wear whatever you want. This will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here, and check out our shows page to see what else is coming up at Black Sheep!

October 25th at Black Sheep: Hobgob 2013

8116002062_ea92df7daf_bWe are very excited to announce today that we will be hosting NIL8‘s annual Hobgoblinspookadelic on Friday, October 25th this fall. Yes, this does mean that NIL8 will be playing. We are not going to tell you the other bands playing right now though! The full show will be announced later on in the month. We’d just though we would give you a head start in making Halloween plans and picking out costumes by giving you the date early.

To check out a bunch of photos from Hobgob last year, check out our Hobgob 2012 flickr set. You can also see what other shows we have coming up this fall on our shows page.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Off With Their Heads, The Timmys, NIL8, RDNT

off with their flierTonight’s the big one! (Of course Battle of the Bands last weekend was also the big one, and Black Sheep Fest next weekend is another big one). The show tonight should still be one of the biggest and most fun shows this summer! Why? Because we have really awesome bands playing! We have Off With Their Heads from Minnesota coming! They were supposed to play here back in March but sadly had to drop. Tonight they are going to make it back to Springfield with a great set filled with tons of fun. They will be joined by a great lineup of local bands! The Timmys will be playing the show before Off With Their Heads. Before that is long-running punk band NIL8! NIL8 have not played a show in Springfield since December. Opening up the show is the teenage punk band RDNT.

The show kicks off at 7:00 pm and doors are at 6:30 pm. Admission is $8 unless you have already pre-ordered tickets for $6. If you pre-ordered tickets online, just bring a photo ID to the show and we will have your name on a will-call list. A facebook event for the show can be found right here. Also don’t forget to check out what other shows are coming up this summer over on our shows page.

Off With Their Heads will be playing at Black Sheep on Saturday, July 20th! (For real this time!) They won’t be joined by Teenage Bottlerocket this time, but we do have quite the lineup of bands for this show! Also playing this show is Springfield long-running punk rock band The Timmys! (Who also won your choice for best Springfield album of 2012). Then we have… NIL8!?! The even longer running Springfield punk band has not played Black Sheep since Hobgob in October- which was also NIL8’s 30 year anniversary as a band.
