Tonight not in Springfield, but the grand city of St. Louis there is a special event going on showcasing a lot of bands fresh out of the Springfield music scene. That event is the Dumb Records showcase show happening at Melt Bar & Eatery (2712 Cherokee St). Things are sure to get wild tonight in St. Louis, with a total of six bands playing this show (four from Springfield and two from St. Louis). The bands traveling from Springfield include: the very mysterious Diaper Rash, the even more mysterious Soap Scum, the indie/ghoulie indie alternative band SAP, and the high school sweet-fart punk band Panzys. What a lineup of Springfield bands! From St. Louis there will also be two bands playing. Those include Nos Bos (streaming below), and also Maximum Effort.

The show tonight will start right at 8:00 pm (remember this is at MELT in St. Louis, not at Black Sheep). Admission is $5-7 (a percentage of the door is going straight to Dumb Records) and the event is all ages. You can find a facebook event for the show right here.

Dumb Records One Year Anniversary Today

Dumb1yearanniversary

Today is a big day in Southtown. For those of you who can remember one whole year back, you might remember on January 10th and 11th of 2014 Dumb Records opening it’s doors for the first time. There was a big grand opening party on the 11th with an art show at Black Sheep next door, and the store even appeared in the Springfield Business Journal the following month.

Today Dumb Records is turning one whole year old and we have some things in store to celebrate. First off, everything in the store today (open 10:00 am – 9:00 pm) is 15% off. Then tonight we are having a show at Black Sheep to celebrate the store being around for one year. Bands playing that include Caterpillar Club– the shoegaze project of Kevin Bradford, owner of Black Sheep. We also have Kevin’s band lotto jazz-fushion project going by the name “International Mutant Orchestra.” Also on the bill is Springfield pop group Full Chroma. Before them are another high school-aged pop group called The Locals. And opening things up will be a performance by the alternative/punk group The Seething Coast.

The show tonight begins at 6:30 pm and is $5, inside of Black Sheep. Dumb Records will be open all day and all through the show. Find a facebook event for all of this right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything else coming up in Southtown.

Happy new year from those of us at Black Sheep and Southtown headquarters! With the new year we are going to be trying some new things, as we enter 2015 (year of the sheep) and approach the ten year mark for Black Sheep as an all ages venue.

This is not something that Black Sheep or Dumb Records normally gets the opportunity to do, but on Thursday, January 15th at Melt (Bar/Grill/Cafe) in St. Louis Dumb Records will be taking part in a Dumb Records Showcase show. The show will feature a couple of Springfield bands (right now including Soap Scum and SAP) as well as St. Louis local Maximum Effort. You can stream some of Maximum Effort’s music below. Dumb Records will also have a distro set up at this show and all door money will be going towards the out of town bands and our record store.

***UPDATE: Diaper Rash (Springfield) and Nos Bos (St. Louis) have also recently been added to the show.

The event will start at 9:00 pm at Melt in St. Louis (2712 Cherokee Street). Admission is $5-7 for our cause. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Dumb Records will also be having its one year anniversary show at Black Sheep on Saturday, January 10th. More info on that can be found right here.

January 10th: Dumb Records 1 Year Anniversary Show

Dumb1yearanniversary

It’s hard to believe it, but Southtown record store Dumb Records is already nearing its one year of existence here in Springfield. The store opened up the weekend of January 10th and 11th this year in 2014. Now on Saturday, January 10th of 2015 we will be hosting a special show for Dumb Records at Black Sheep. Yes, this show is going to be at Black Sheep instead of Dumb Records because we want full rock bands to play and there will be other activities planned for inside of Dumb Records (to be announced later on). For this show we have a pretty good lineup of all local bands. Headlining the whole shebang is Caterpillar Club, the shoegaze-sludge project of Kevin Bradford, owner of Black Sheep. This show will also feature the second performance of the ten-person band lotto jazz fiasco going by the name of “International Mutant Orchestra.” We also have the return of Full Chroma, who’s last time playing at Black Sheep was for Black Sheep Fest 2014 back in July. Then will be the local band and Battle of the Bands champs, The Locals. And kicking things off we have Springfield rock group The Seething Coast.

The show at Black Sheep will start at 6:30 pm and the door price is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one soon. Dumb Records will also be open all day this day, from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. Right now we can tell you that there will be a 15% off sale on everything in the store, and there will be other surprises announced later on. Check out our shows page if you want to have a peek at other things coming up in Southtown in 2015.
