Records? I have it on DVD

Another car show weekend was had downtown last weekend. There were many cars.

Speaking of events, coming up we have this very very very very very very very very good country punk/shoegaze/indie show happening downtown on Sunday. Everyone who has seen Dusk when they have performed here in the past have fallen in love. Not to mention a rare treat seeing Attic Salt, a very great artist form Cinci Maura Weaver and the hot new band Holy Moly Angels. Not bad for 10 buck-a-roos.

Also coming up is another loud show happening on Monday

This Friday has some huge releases with Taylor and KPOP Demon Hunters, Wowee!
– TAYLOR SWIFT with her 12th studio album “The Life Of A Showgirl” – we will have copies on “sweat & perfume portofino” vinyl (orange glitter) and also CD at both stores. (crossing our fingers that these show up in time, it could be a case where they show up during the day tomorrow)
– KPOP DEMON HUNTERS (original soundtrack from the film) this has the potential to be bigger than Taylor! If you watched it you know.
– AFI also with their 12th studio album, “Silver Bleeds The Black Sun” and we will have copies on black vinyl.
– Rhino Records’s ROCKTOBER series kicks off tomorrow and we’ll have releases trickling in throughout the month. Just a few are out tomorrow including SEX PISTOLS “Never Mind the Bullocks…” and DEEP PURPLE “Live In Japan.”

This week Pepperoni picked Buckingham Nicks

“Comin’ at ya with another pick later on in the week! Fleetwood Mac “Rumours” remains our #1 top seller of all times here at Dumb Records and has been just about since we opened 12 years ago. Fleetwood Mac has an extensive catalogue covering a wide range of genres, starting out as a blues rock band in the late 60’s. But if I had to pick any album that I would highly recommend to fans of Rumours… it would have to be this one, “Buckingham Nicks” which was the only album the duo of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, released in 1973 before they joined Fleetwood Mac. This album had not gotten a proper re-issue since the 70’s, and also had been unavailable online before now! Come out to Dumb and snag a copy!”

11 Dumb Years

Boy it sure has been cold and snowy around here. Reminds me of the days of warming my hands in a cookie oven which was the only source of heat in the Black Sheep Cafe one year.

During our Anniversary sale we met none other than the voice of Larry the Cucumber from VeggieTales! what an honor. He earned a free t-shirt for being the actual guy.

Here are your hot Friday vinyls!

– MAC MILLER with “Balloonerism” – his 7th studio album, which was recorded sometime between 2013 and 2014 around the time the mixtape “Faces” was released. We will have the indie exclusive white vinyl variant at both locations.
– “Be My Valentine Charlie Brown” (Vince Guaraldi) celebrating it’s 50th anniversary! This might actually be some sort of pink vinyl, we are not sure.
– GLORILLA, the debut album from this American rapper called “Glorious” out on gold vinyl.
– A re-issue of heavy metal band GREAT WHITE’s 1991 album “Hooked”
– The deluxe version of GRACIE ABRAM’s album from last year “The Secret Of Us” will be coming out on double light blue vinyl!

This week Pepperoni picked Taylor again

“Sneakin’ out laaaaaate tapppin’ on yer windowwww, when we’re on the phone and you be talkin’ REAL SLOWWWWW… CUZ IT’S LATE AND YER MAMA DON’T KNOWwwwwww, when you think of me do you think of Timmm McGrawwwwww”
“This is the first ever album by Taylor Swift. She made this when she was practically like twelve years old. Okay now I have picked every Taylor Swift album except for Reputation.”

They Have Games About Fightin Now

Just wanted to mention again about all our Black Friday Record Store Day stuff, which is coming up next week. Here is all the info on one image, how’s that for convenience!

We recently added Tekken 5 to our downtown arcade! We know you all thought our arcade was ok but needed some fightin’ games, so ya’ll can go an fight now.

This week’s Friday releases!

There are a LOTTTT of releases to go over for Friday release day this week! (Why are they doing this, it is one week before Black Friday Record Store Day!?!)
– ZACH BRYAN “The Great American Bar Scene” – vinyl release for REAL this time, after getting pushed back.
– THE SMASHING PUMPKINS “Aghori Maori Mei” – this new Pumpkins album was surprise released online earlier this summer around the time they played our fair and Billy surprised us ALL by stopping by our very own store! Now it’s getting a physical release!
– MÖTLEY CRÜE “Dr. Feelgood” 35th Anniversary pressing with fancy splatter vinyl and alternative artwork!
– A bunch of early albums from SABRINA CARPENTER are getting re-pressed! “Singular I”, “Singular Act II,” and “Evolution” are the ones we anticipate getting.
– New album from FATHER JOHN MISTY, “Mahashmashana”?
– New album from black metal group OPETH, “The Last Will And Testament” (this one was also pushed back).
– Re-issue of LA DISPUTE’s 2006 EP “Vancouver”
– KILLER MIKE’s new album “Songs For Sinners And Saints” clear red vinyl.
– WICKED soundtrack???
– (Not pictured), but there are re-issues for every EARLY BEATLES ALBUM?!?? “Early Beatles,” “A Hard Days Night,” “Something New,” “Beatles ’65,” “Meet The Beatles,” “The Beatles Second Album”.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY releases the week before Record Store Day we can’t keep up!?!!

This week Pepperoni picked Evermore

“First of all, I know I am running out of Taylor Swift albums to pick (very few are potentially left). Folklore remains Taylor’s hottest selling album here at Dumb Records and probably plenty of other record stores around the world, so it is probably long overdue that I pick “Evermore,” the follow up album to Folklore, both released in the same year of 2020 when Covid-19 kept us all at home. This one starts off with the hit single “Willow.” There are features on here from HAIM, The National, and Bon Iver. Oh yeah, this is the forest green vinyl edition. Enjoy!”

It Was A Record Store Day

Record Store Day has come and gone. We had our biggest day yet. It was the most titles we’ve ever stocked and a huge line despite the cold, and the most records we’ve sold in a single day. The earliest campers got in line around 5pm Friday night. We opened at 8am and had a line at the store until sometime after 11am. We need a bigger store.

Here’s our staff photo we took the night before as we got ready for the event. These shirts were available to the first 100 people to make it in Saturday morning.

But not only was it Record Store Day, it was also the weekend of a new Taylor Swift release! This time her album came out with 4 variants available to Indie record store. The normal white cover, and then 3 variants each with a different bonus track. That Taylor is getting pretty crafty! We have helped a lot of confused parents and grandparents with figuring which one they were supposed to get! We also received the special postcards that we handed out to first few people coming in for the variants.

We’ve been very busy processing online orders and trying to get back to normal business all week and perhaps by Friday we’ll finally be there.

Diving in to those FRIDAY RELEASE HIGHLIGHTS which just happens to be TOMORROW’s releases:
– ST. VINCENT has a brand new album “All Born Screaming” – we should have copies on plain black and also exclusive red vinyl.
– IRON & WINE have a brand new album “Light Verse” available on black and also nifty clear with blue swirl vinyl.
– THE BEST OF THE WAILERS: this was a UK RSD release I believe but available here starting tomorrow, on pink vinyl.
– PET SHOP BOYS with their 15th studio album “Nonetheless” available on grey vinyl.
– LAUFEY “Bewitched: Goddess Edition” (it’s goddess edition because the vinyl is blue and it comes with a board game) (I just learned how to pronounce this artist’s name and I’m really proud of myself)
– DEF LEPPARD with the 40th anniversary of “Pyromania” there is a single LP half-speed mastering version of this and also a double-LP version with demos and live tracks.
– GLORIA COLEMAN QUARTET “Soul Sisters” (being re-issued on black vinyl as part of the Verve by-request series).

This week Pepperoni has picked MCR’s Black Parade

“What’s up nerds. I hope everyone had a good Record Store Day this weekend. I’m back in the office today pickin’ my next pick… what’s this? A picture disc? I did not mean to order the picture disc version of this record but it is what showed up in the mail so I guess we’re gonna go with it. (How do you feel about picture discs Pepperoni fan’s, yay or nay)? Anyways, this is “The Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance and some of you out there will freak out about it because it is ALL you listened to in high school in the 2000’s or 2010’s or something. You owned it on CD then, come out to Dumb Records so you can own it on picture disc now.”

Yee Haw!

Tonight! We’re hosting a rare country/folk/indie show featuring Blue County Pistol from Madison, WI, Marble Teeth from Decatur, local folk punkers Yardwaste and folk heroes Cut Flowers, all for a total of $9

Friday Releases this week!

– TYPE O NEGATIVE, their last album “Dead Again” from 2007 gets a white and black splattery re-issue.

– BOB MARLEY & THE WAILERS “Trenchtown Rock” a collection of songs on yellow vinyl.
– CHASTITY BELT “Live Laugh Love” the fourth(?) album from this indie-rock four piece band.
SERPENTWITHFEET brand new album “Grip” which is the 3rd from this singer songwriter.
– ALL TIME LOW “MTV Unplugged” originally released in 2009 out Friday on “electric blue” vinyl.

Pepperoni’s pick this week is the not-taylors-version 1989

“I know, I know, another Taylor Swift pick. This week I am picking “1989” (not Taylor’s version). You know, before this we have had SIX Taylor Swift albums in the Pepperoni’s hall-of-fame vault, this makes number SEVEN… and you know how many albums Taylor has? FIFTEEN including the four “Taylor’s Versions” that have been released so far and also her upcoming album to be released next month! You better believe I am eventually picking them all.”

In case anyone walking into our store is still not sure if we buy records, then hopefully this new banner will get the message across

And my last little treat for you this week, a new run of Pepperoni shirts has recently landed in the store, better grab one before they’re gone!
