I’m A Lobsta From The Wata

It’s Showtime, we now have Addams Family pinball available for play at our downtown store!

Also recently the Record Store Day Black Friday list dropped. We are ordering all of it as usual and will be splitting it all up between our 2 stores. Hope to see you then.

This week Pepperoni picked Bad

“I’m BAD! I love to puke on the carpet after I’ve just got done trying to eat all of the plants in the store or house, scratch up all of the couches as bad as I can, and knock all of the pens off of the counter. And almost as bad as me is Michael Jackson on his 1987 album, “Bad”. This was the follow up to Thriller, and it’s got “Smooth Criminal” and some other hits on it.”

Records? I have it on DVD

Another car show weekend was had downtown last weekend. There were many cars.

Speaking of events, coming up we have this very very very very very very very very good country punk/shoegaze/indie show happening downtown on Sunday. Everyone who has seen Dusk when they have performed here in the past have fallen in love. Not to mention a rare treat seeing Attic Salt, a very great artist form Cinci Maura Weaver and the hot new band Holy Moly Angels. Not bad for 10 buck-a-roos.

Also coming up is another loud show happening on Monday

This Friday has some huge releases with Taylor and KPOP Demon Hunters, Wowee!
– TAYLOR SWIFT with her 12th studio album “The Life Of A Showgirl” – we will have copies on “sweat & perfume portofino” vinyl (orange glitter) and also CD at both stores. (crossing our fingers that these show up in time, it could be a case where they show up during the day tomorrow)
– KPOP DEMON HUNTERS (original soundtrack from the film) this has the potential to be bigger than Taylor! If you watched it you know.
– AFI also with their 12th studio album, “Silver Bleeds The Black Sun” and we will have copies on black vinyl.
– Rhino Records’s ROCKTOBER series kicks off tomorrow and we’ll have releases trickling in throughout the month. Just a few are out tomorrow including SEX PISTOLS “Never Mind the Bullocks…” and DEEP PURPLE “Live In Japan.”

This week Pepperoni picked Buckingham Nicks

“Comin’ at ya with another pick later on in the week! Fleetwood Mac “Rumours” remains our #1 top seller of all times here at Dumb Records and has been just about since we opened 12 years ago. Fleetwood Mac has an extensive catalogue covering a wide range of genres, starting out as a blues rock band in the late 60’s. But if I had to pick any album that I would highly recommend to fans of Rumours… it would have to be this one, “Buckingham Nicks” which was the only album the duo of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, released in 1973 before they joined Fleetwood Mac. This album had not gotten a proper re-issue since the 70’s, and also had been unavailable online before now! Come out to Dumb and snag a copy!”

Just Watched KPOP Demon Hunders And I Do Now Understand

We had a blast at Vintage Fair last weekend!

Tonight this Loud show is happening downtown.

Here are some of this Friday’s vinyl releases:

– CHANCE THE RAPPER – we’ve never been able to get him on vinyl before now! Now there’s a 10th anniversary pressing of “Acid Rap” coming out, and we’ll have it in both stores!
– BRIGHT EYES are here with a new 8-song EP called “Kids Table EP”- Two re-issues from Pearl Jam related project MOTHER LOVE BONE. Their albums “Apple” and “Shine” are finally going to be available!
– NEKO CASE is here with her 8th studio album, “Neon Grey Midnight Green”! We’ll have it.
– A fancy neon green reissue of ROB ZOMBIE’s “Hellbilly Deluxe” is out, for a limited “Record Store Day Essentials” release.
– Last up there’s a new one from rapper singer songwriter DOJA CAT called “Vie” and we’ll have it on vinyl!

We are taking pre-orders for the new Taylor coming up soon. We’ve already put in an order for a metric ton of these!

This Sunday we have another loud show happening here. Also it’s Car Show Weekend so downtown will be filled to the brim with classic cars if that’s something that floats your boat.

a few pre-opening photos before things got real crazy last Sunday at VINTAGE FAIR

Chicka Chicka Cherry Cola

Today marks twenty years since the first ever show at The Black Sheep Cafe on September 17th, 2005.

The Black Sheep all ages show space continued until the end of 2018, which is when we packed up all of our things and headed downtown and vowed to continue the mission of providing an all ages shows space to the youth of Springfield, just all under the name Dumb Records. While what Black Sheep started as is completely different than the space we have downtown today, this still marks twenty continuous years of all ages shows (maybe with a break for a pandemic somewhere in there).

This Sunday is Vintage Fair! We’ll have vendors setup in the alley by our downtown store. Springfield Vintage will also be joining the fun with vendors setup in their shop as well.

Here are this Friday’s hot new vinyl releases!
– BUCKINGHAM NICKS originally released in 1973 and not ever re-issued until NOW, the long awaited re-release of this Fleetwood Mac affiliated project. Out on light blue vinyl, pink vinyl, and a should have a couple of the half-speed mastered version on black vinyl as well.
– NINE INCH NAILS with the “Tron: Ares” soundtrack! There are actually two variations to this, one black vinyl and the other on white.
– The sixth studio album from North Carolina indie-rock band WEDNESDAY called “Bleeds” out on black vinyl.
– A re-issue of the all time punk classic from 1982 “Milo Goes To College” by DESCENDENTS. Out on marbled grey vinyl.
– A new album from CARDI B called “Am I The Drama?” on indie exclusive blue and regular black vinyl.

This week Pepperoni picked the Rolling Stones

“Good morning. You can’t always get what you want here at Dumb Records, but sometimes if you try some times you just might find you get what you need, and that really is a copy of “Let It Bleed” by The Rolling Stones on vinyl. This 180 gram pressing of their 1969 hit album, I can’t think of another band that has been active a whole 63 years, they sure have been long overdue for a pick from me! Plus this one opens up with one of my favorite Stones tracks “Gimme Shelter!”

Something cool this week, we had a visit from bands “The Thing With Feathers” and “The Band Feel” which includes the drummer from Greta Van Fleet.

Talking Eraserheads

Well last Saturday we had our most attended and craziest listening party to date with Twenty One Pilots. We had 100 wristbands and posters to give out which we thought was way more than necessary, but after over 120 people came through we were out of everything. We also might have got in trouble with the mall for having too many people in our store and being too loud, sorry.

Yesterday Pepperoni turned 7! Folks came in and wished him happy birthday and at least one handmade card was presented. For folks who don’t know their Pepperoni lore, 7 years ago he wandered into our original location and never left. He’s been running the show ever since.

Here are your Friday Releases!
– TWENTY ONE PILOTS and their eighth studio album “Breach” – is actually being released tomorrow even though we had the advance listening party last weekend! Yes we will have copies available for sale, most of them will be the blue smoke indie exclusive vinyl!
– LED ZEPPELIN have a “Live EP” coming out!?!? Going along with the 50th anniversary of “Physical Graffiti” this consists of (four) songs from that album performed live in years 1975 and 1979.
– A re-issue for the 1995 album by JOHN PRINE, “Lost Dogs + Mixed Blessings” out on black and also popcorn flavored vinyl.
– A 50th anniversary pressing of Grateful Dead’s “Blues For Allah” – available on green vinyl and also picture disc!
– ED SHEERAN has his 8th studio album out, called “Play”. There are a bunch of different variants for this, we ordered three different kinds.

This week Pepperoni picked a Minecraft record!

“Heyyyy all you Pepperoni fan’s. Do any of my followers out there play the game “mine craft?” I am just now finding out about it. It’s a computer game where you play with blocks and they came out with a movie about it this summer. Well, apparently some people like it. Or if you like ambient music, think Brian Eno, you might like this. (This is apparently music from the actual game, not the movie soundtrack). (The movie soundtrack IS coming out on October 17th on vinyl and we will have it).”

We also just stocked new shirts at our Downtown store for all you loud music enjoyers

this show is happening downtown on Saturday, also for you loud music enjoyers

Feel Like I’m Turning Into a Werewolf

We had a lot of fun at the Sabrina Carpenter release party last Saturday at the Mall! Many people came out to get the free stickers, posters, and buy the album.

This week we have a rock ‘n roll show happening Friday night downtown, followed by the Twenty One Pilots album listening party on Saturday at the mall. One note on that party, the new Twenty One Pilots is not released yet however we will be taking preorders on exclusive versions of the album, plus there will be other trinkets to get!

Here are all the new vinyl releases coming out this Friday!

– This time, BIG THIEF have their new album “Double Infinity” coming out for real! (we had things mixed up and showed it a few weeks ago). Out on exclusive green and also black vinyl.
– You can expect re-issues of MF DOOM’s “Special Herbs” series! There are five different records covering volumes one through ten (two volumes per record, sold separately!) Out on colored vinyl!
– LA DISPUTE’s fifth studio album and their first in six years – “No One Was Driving The Car” – out on black and also “green smoke” vinyl.
– DAVID BYRNE of Talking Heads fame has a new solo album coming out “Who Is The Sky” and we will have copies on different colorways!
– Norwegian black metal band MAYHEM have a reissue of their 90’s album “Wolf’s Lair Abyss” on black vinyl.
– Last up some SPINAL TAP reissues with a new movie coming out – reissues for “Break Like The Wind” and “This Is Spinal Tap”!

This week Pepperoni picked Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem!

I bet you all didn’t think I would be coming through in my first pick of September with a MUPPETS pick! That’s right, it’s DR. TEETH and THE ELECTRIC MAYHEM BAND. This one actually came out two years ago along with the band’s new series they had on Disney plus. But really it features their long time standing hit “Can You Picture That?” which was first heard in THE 1979 perfect film: The Muppet Movie (starring Kermit the Frog). The Electric Mayhem bring the heat throughout this one – we’ve got eight original songs and seven covers. Ringo Starr actually plays drums on one of the songs. Can you dig it?

This week Pepperoni picked Cherry Bomb

“Hello daddy, HELLO mom, I’m a ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-CHERRY BOMB.”

One fun thing we’ve done lately is somehow we got our hands on Tyler’s latest Don’t Tap The Glass album and did a giveaway at both of our stores and were able to give away 2 copies to 2 lucky winners. What a fun time.

Also recently we had one of these banana records but someone has bought it already.

Wow, He was on Fire This Whole Time??

Boy do we have a packed week! Hardcore show tonight (Wednesday). Then Thursday we have the Laufey Midnight Release Party, and on Friday we have a rock ‘n roll show booked by Lovelorn. All of these events happening at our downtown location.

This week Pepperoni picked the Doors

“It’s back to school season. The weather is getting a tad cooler, tourist season is ending downtown and things are slowing down a little bit. So why not I pick a record that has a track “Summer’s Almost Gone” for us all to cry to. That’s The Doors 1968 album “Waiting For The Sun.” Can you believe I haven’t picked a Doors album yet? This one kicks off with the pulsating hit, “Hello, I Love You.” This was also the band’s only album to hit the top of the billboard charts! Enjoy!”

Goth night last friday was a huge success! Lots of people dressed up, came out, danced, and we all had a good time.

Just a gentle, soothing reminder to keep an eye on our Upcoming Shows for all the shows, release parties and other events we have coming up! Besides 1 million hardcore shows, we have some cool stuff coming up like the Twenty One Pilots and Sabrina Carpenter release parties and our next Illinois Vintage Fair.

I Dropped My Cookie

Our line outside last week waiting for the midnight Ethel Cain listening party. These are fun, looking forward to the next one!

Speaking of parties, this Friday we’re hosting our very first GOTH DJ NIGHT

Here are the hot new record releases this Friday!

– Indie rock band BIG THIEF are here with their sixth studio album “Double Infinity” and we’ll have the indie exclusive green vinyl!

This week Pepperoni Picked Kiss’ Hotter Than Hell

“Everyone sit down. Who remembers when KISS played our state fair? The mayor and the governor came out and everyone booed the governor and they gave KISS the key to the city and then they sang the pledge of allegiance. I had previously picked KISS’s disco album “Dynsasty” as my pick of the week and that was it. Well, it’s finally time I pick a NON-DISCO KISS and today that is going to have to be their second studio album, “Hotter Than Hell” from 1974. You see the thing about KISS is that they have 20 studio albums and when people come in asking for KISS they don’t really care which KISS albums we have, they’ll take anything. Anything before Dynasty is going to be some solid hard rock though. I was playing this on the outdoor speakers earlier and everyone from Good Heart Tattoo poked their head in while the song “Goin’ Blind” was playing and that’s when we realized that the band MELVINS cover that song on their album “Houdini” Pretty cool!”

We also just recently added Independence Day Pinball to our pinball lineup downtown. Hit the alien head for multiball. Keep playing and see if you can start Area 51 multiball. Designed by Rob Hurtado and our first SEGA pinball machine.

Teenagers in Groups of 4 or More

Don’t forget this Thursday we have the midnight release of Ethel Cain’s latest album, downtown!

Here are you new Friday release records this week!

– ETHEL CAIN with her sophomore album “Willoghby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You” – and we should have the indie exclusive copies with the extra insert! We are holding a MIDNIGHT release for this late Thursday night at our downtown store!
– THE BLACK KEYS are here with their thirteenth studio album “NO RAIN, NO FLOWER” and we’ll have copies on exclusive red!
– BABYMETAL – are a Japanese “Kawaii metal” band? And this is their fifth studio album “Metal Forth”!
– MACHINE GUN KELLY actually just goes by MGK now and it’s HIS turn to do a country album I guess, called “Lost Americana”! And out Friday!
– Oh yes it’s time for a reissue of LIL WAYNE’s 2005 album “THA CARTER 2”
– CHARLEY CROCKETT is back with his 14th studio album and second this year, “Dollar A Day”!

This week Pepperoni picked Texas Sun

“Both Khruangbin (three-piece psychedelic rock group) and Leon Bridges (modern R&B soul singer) are two artists that I have been contemplating picking a pick for… why not knock them both out with their 2020 collaborative effort – “Texas Sun?” I do believe this is a good summertime pick as well. A total of four songs clocking in a little over twenty minutes, featuring these great musicians doing what they do best for the perfect combo. Pair this up with the sequel, “Texas Moon” and you basically have yourself a perfect album.”

We have another loud show happening this Saturday downtown

Recently this record came in. It looked pretty weird and the cover was pretty beat up so we threw it on the roof.
