Tonight at Black Sheep: Battalion, Dreams May Fall, Heavy Arms, Vengeance, Elyse

Tonight we have metal band Battalion from Springfield and the St. Louis areas, who have also recently released a brand new EP that you can probably pick up at the show. Then we have Dreams May Fall playing metalcore from Pekin Illinois. And we have Heavy Arms from Belleville, Illinois. Did you know that Heavy Arms are also playing day one of Dumb Fest?!? Moving on, we have Vengeance from Southern Illinois playing more metal. Last but not least is Mechanicsburg metal band Elyse.

5/20 at Black Sheep: False Light, Emperor Norton, Kaworu, Dusty Fingers, Aporia

28026_234747433324367_737843932_nLookout! It’s another fast and loud spring show at Black Sheep! This one is going to be on Monday, May 20th and boy is it going to be intense. This show features False Light (no, not the band from Peoria). It’s okay though because there is another Peoria band on the show! Anyways, this False Light comes from South Carolina and they play fast and heavy powerviolence. Next up we have Emperor Norton, Springfield’s finest hardcore punk band. And coming from Peoria we have the new Kaworu. Kaworu play “blackened hardcore.” Did you know they will also be playing Dumb Fest?  It’s true. Now moving on to the noise. This show will feature St. Louis noise project Dusty Fingers. Opening the whole thing up will be the first show of a brand new Springfield noise project called Aporia. Aporia features a member of the band And God Said Dance!.

May 4th at Black Sheep: Scott Blacula, Denouncer, Soap Scum

MAY4thflierOn May 4th we have a show that is “hard as nails” according to the master of metal, Kevin Bradford himself. On this show we have Scott Blacula bringing us their short and sweet hardcore/grindcore songs that we can all dance around to. Then we have Denouncer on tour from somewhere in Florida. They play music that is somewhere in the heavier genres. Opening things up we have Soap Scum. No one knows where that band is from or what type of music they play.

Updates on 4/23 Show at Black Sheep

8611465255_f5170665e8_bLook at that! Easter is over but we still have this cute flier for the Cottontail show done by Kristin Walker of Lovecow. We also have an addition to the show to tell you about.  A brand new Springfield project called Borealis will be opening up the show. Borealis is a solo project featuring Mario Soap of Soap Scum. Also playing the show is Cottontail, Lovecow, and Montagh. Cottontail have recently released a new album through Savage Wasteland Music Collective. The album is called Remaining Stray and can be streamed here or below.

Tonight at The Radon Lounge: The Soil & The Sun, Kellen & Me, Trouper

There’s a big indie/folk-rock show happening tonight at The Radon Lounge! Tonight’s show features The Soil And The Sun– an indie band from Michigan with eight members. They will be arriving in a big bus because there are so many of them! You can stream some of their songs on the bandcamp player at the bottom of this post. Also playing The Radon Lounge tonight is Kellen & Me, which is a one-man electric/indie/folk project from Chicago. And the first act that will be playing tonight is Trouper, which is a newer duo from Mansfield, Ohio.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Soap Scum, Chain’s Gang, Gas Up Yr Hearse, Caterpillar Club, My Dad, Pisces At The Animal Fair

BXS 032913Whoa look at this crazy action-packed show that is happening at Black Sheep tonight! There are six bands playing (two had a date fall through in Iowa so we combined shows). And then there are three bands releasing tapes at the show! This is one not to miss! Tonight’s show features the new-ish hardcore/punk band Soap Scum. Soap Scum features members of Don’t Mess With Winkie, Kick To Tha Head, and a few other bands. They will be releasing their first demo on cassette tonight (you can find a picture of that below). Next we have another newer punk/hardcore band from Champaign called Chain’s Gang. Chain’s Gang features members of Need, Horrible Things, and Kowabunga! Kid. They will ALSO be releasing a tape at this show. Then we also have Gas Up Yr Hearse from Bloomington/Normal. They play chaotic screamo/hardcore. Gas Up Yr Hearse MIGHT be releasing a tape at this show too. Moving on we have Caterpillar Club– the shoegaze/sludge project featuring members of Soap Scum and Our Lady. And the newest additions to the show are Chicago’s own My Dad and Pisces At The Animal Fair. Both bands had a show fall through in Iowa earlier this week so we are combining shows.

May 22nd at Black Sheep: Tiger Tank, Gospel & The Wolf, Our Lady, Jessica Knight

599602_583727804990449_126011673_nIt’s almost April and we have a show going on in May to tell you about! Summer is coming, summer is coming! The snow is melting and we are going to have some really awesome shows this spring! On Wednesday May 22nd the band Tiger Tank will be making a return to Black Sheep. Last time they played at Black Sheep was Hobgob 2012, you can check out pictures from that show right here. The touring act from Austin, Texas on this show is Gospel & The Wolf. Gospel & The Wolf is a solo acoustic act featuring an ex-member of the band Solace Before Sundown. Also playing the show is Our Lady! It’s been a while since Our Lady has played a show at Black Sheep so let’s all come out and support them! By the time of the show they will be back from their April tour. Opening things up will be Jessica Knight playing some acoustic tunes for us.

Saturday at Black Sheep

554863_564929283532360_1534478140_nLooks like there is a show coming up on Saturday that we almost forgot to tell you about! It’s the return of pop punk local band Kickstart! They will be making their return after a four month long break from playing shows. Also playing the show is another Central Illinois pop punk band, Hometown Heavyweights. Then we have metal/punk band Oblivion Oasis from Arthur, Illinois. Opening things up is the solo act Kweeza, making his Black Sheep debut!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Lighthouses, Short Stories About Their Distance, Naughtalus, ???

529885_473105209410155_1798584233_nSomething is happening tonight! It feels like it’s been a minute since we’ve had a show and tonight is a great Saturday night for a rock show. Tonight we have the band Lighthouses coming on tour from Nebraska. They play a post-hardcore type of rock. Then from the nearby city of Bloomington/Normal we have Short Stories About Their Distance. The band features member of Gas Up Yr Hearse (who will be playing here on the 29th). Those bands will be joined by local support from Naughtalus. Naughtalus will be playing their Black Sheep debut. The band features members of Dream Eater. Opening things up tonight we have ???. No, that does not mean the opening act is a surprise. ??? is some sort of rap project by Bo Melado, vocalist of Mildred.

May 1st at The Radon Lounge: Lucius, Tall Tall Trees, Derrick Streibig

476_583060951704437_1057114150_nIt looks like The Radon Lounge will be having another show thing spring! This one is on Wednesday, May 1st. The show will feature Lucius, a five-piece band from Brooklyn, NY. They will be joined by the band Tall Tall Trees also from New York. They play an Americana type of folk rock. The third and final act that will be opening things up will be Derrick Streibig from St. Louis.

The Radon Lounge has also been gearing up for a show on April 4th featuring the ten-piece band The Soil & The Sun. The Radon Lounge also will be putting on a festival called “The Horse Show” on June 15th at the Refuge Range. We know, we know, it’s the same day as Dumb Fest, but there is no reason you can’t stop by both!
