Tonight at The Poon Lagoon: Hospital Job, Big Storm, The Timmys, Nathan Leigh

Tonight there are no shows going on at Black Sheep, but there is a sweet house show happening in Springfield that you can go to if you are looking for something to do on a Friday night. This show is happening at The Poon Lagoon, and if you don’t know where that is you might try looking around on the facebook event page, or ask a friend. Playing the show tonight is Springfield all star pop punkers Hospital Job. Before the pop punk we will be getting some feel-good rock from candy pop rockers Big Storm. Also on this show is the long running Springfield punk band The Timmys. And to top all of that off we have Nathan Leigh, a touring solo musician from Brooklyn, NY. Tonight at Black Sheep: Cantalouper, Mystery Gift, Paqui

If you are looking for something to do after school or work tonight, The Black Sheep might not be a bad place to be. Tonight we have the indie/shoegaze band Cantalouper playing. They are from Columbia, Missouri and you can check out some of their tunes on the player below. Before they play we get to see a couple of bands local to Springfield. We have the poppy and video game influenced band Mystery Gift. Opening up the show tonight is the acoustic wrestling hero Paqui.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Two Knights, Our Lady, Wir Konnen, Jessica Knight

showLadies and gents, we have a swell show for you this evening! All the way from Denton Texas, Two Knights will be playing some super uplifting, emo for us. Their tunes will make you want to tap your feet and feel things, so come out and support these guys while they tour! Speaking of feeling things, make sure to check out the local band Our Lady when they play tonight. These rad folks have some new and revamped tunes for us that will really strike deep. Another awesome rad, local emo band Wir Konnen will be playing tonight as well. It’s going to be their cassette release show! Patch Records is sponsoring these sad pups so get some tapes from them and check out their set! Here’s a sneak peak of one of their releases. Jessica Knight of Looming will be performing an acoustic set this evening that will make you feel swell inside, so make sure to check her out too!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Hobgob 2013

hobslobLadies and gentleman, ghouls and its, tonight is the night! Hobgob 2013 is here to take us away to eerie and faraway lands. Prepare to experience a show that will leave you spookified for weeks, my friends. It’s gonna be great!

The founders of the fest will be playing this evening, and they are NIL8. These are the hooligans that rounded up this fest way back in the day, and it’s still going strong! Their heavy punk music is rad and they’re sure to bring us a good show as always! Accompanying them this evening, we also have Soap Scum! These ghostly street rats are sure to fill the whole place with grime, trash and dirty punk tunes, so prepare to SLAM. Check it out, we’re also going to be featuring Looming this year! Their upbeat, heartwarming jams are going to balance everything perfectly so get ready to hop and stomp to their awesome new songs. To darken things up again, we’ll have Execution Techniques give us some crafty, spine-chilling harsh noise that’ll make your hair stand straight up. After that, we’ll be encouraged to find our inner ghoul as we hear from the fun punk band Orange Soda from Champaign. Featuring members of Dino Bravo and Kowabunga! Kid, they’re sure to play songs that’ll make you wiggle and shake till your bones wanna break. It’s uncanny how great this show is going to be! There’s going to be a free clothing drive at Hobgob this year so bring all of your winter apparel and accessories that you don’t want anymore and let others enjoy them! Try to put some extra change in the donation jar if you can (all proceeds go to Blacksheep).

Costumes are encouraged but optional! Bring $5 and come to Black Sheep at 7:00 pm to kick it and slam out to the sounds of Hobgob 2013.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Free At Last, Say Something, Naughtalus, Schnozzberry Jam

We have Free At Last making their return from Springfield, Missouri right after they have played Gateway To The West Fest in St. Louis. You might have seen Free At Last play at Black Sheep this past July. If you missed that show, check out some of their music on the player embedded below! This show will also feature Springfield ska/punk all-star rockers Say Something. They will be sure to fire up the circle pit to a near maximum speed. Also playing this show is Naughtalus, who will be bringing the experimental and post rock. Then opening things up we have a brand new band called Schnozzberry Jam. Come find out what they are all about!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Big Storm, Old Fox Road, Paqui, Yogi Beara, Mystery Gift

1377434_10151591070970059_917429083_nWe got a rockin’ show for you tonight, folks! Opening things up here we got Mystery Gift, a local group with members of Mildred and Meredosia. What IS the mysterious gift? That’s the age-old question. Following Mystery Gift, we have have the two-piece garage rock group Yogi Beara. Following them, we have the lovely Paqui who will grace us with some wonderful tunes. After Paqui, we have a folk punk group from Arthur, IL called Old Fox Road. You can check out their stuff down below. Finally, closing off the night, we have the beloved rockin’ and rollin’ Big Storm.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Hometown Heavyweights, Old Fox Road, Ashland, In Exile, Capys, RDNT, Austin Connelly

Tonight’s going to be a big rad show. We’re going to be featuring Hometown Heavyweights as our headliner. They’re going to be playing some pop-punk tunes for us tonight, perhaps mixed in with some ambient and/or hardcore stuff. Come check them out, they’ve never headlined a show before so bring some support! We’ll also be featuring Ashland, which is an energetic alternative pop-punk band that played Black Sheep back in June. If you didn’t get to see them then, come check their stuff out tonight! While they set up, check out Old Fox Road and their acoustic jams!

Another band playing tonight is called In Exile. They’re going to be bringing us some rock tunes all the way from Chicago, so check them out and stick around! Capys (Kathys) will be playing tonight too and they’ll be producing some instrumental glory to change the pace up a little bit. After them, pull up your britches and get ready for the local punkers in RDNT! They always provide an amusing show and a good set. Austin Connelly of Wir Konnen and Montagh will also be giving us some acoustic jams tonight, so come out to the Black Sheep Cafe at 7 pm and pay only $5 to see all of this! Tonight at Black Sheep: Must Build Jacuzzi, Triple Stitch, Good Times, Joshua Powell

Here’s the show we’ve got going on tonight! We’re featuring Triple Stitch, who will bring us some hardcore rock n’ roll tunes all the way from Minnesota. Another band we’ve got is the ever entertaining Must Build Jacuzzi, which is a ska-core band from Peoria, so make sure to check them out. Someone else you’ll be able to hear is Clint Kesinger, who’ll be coming from St. Louis to bring us Good Times this evening. He played the September 22 show, so you’ll be able to see him perform if you weren’t able to make that one. He has some rad, loungey, indie-folk tunes to play for us and he has a free EP up for download. Check his stuff out and make sure to catch his set tonight, along with all the others! The fourth set we’ll feature tonight is the super swell and rusty folk-rock of Joshua Powell. This is the brand of folk rock that brings an old time feel to the room, which is not common so check it out at this show tonight!

Tonight at The Radon Lounge: Families, Kevin Schlereth, Bear Grass, Lyssa Barth

9729621174_5fe683751d_bYou may have noticed that we do not have any shows this weekend at Black Sheep. This is very sad. We do have plenty of shows lined up though (our next one being a last minute show on Thursday, October 10th). If you are still looking to get your Springfield show fix this weekend there still is this cool show happening tonight at Springfield basement/house venue The Radon Lounge. It features the three-piece folk band Families from Chicago. Before them there will be a performance by Kevin Schlereth. He is a touring solo folk-rock musician from St. Louis. There has also been an awesome later addition to the show! That is the band Bear Grass, coming all the way from Albany, New York. You can check out some of their music below. Opening the show up will be Lyzza Barth, who will be performing some real spoken word.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Our Lady, Lord Snow, My Dad, Yusuke, Mystery Gift

558628_724415554252121_1053178564_nTonight’s the night! Tonight is going to be a great finale to the long run of shows that we have been having at the end of September. After this there aren’t any shows scheduled until October 11th so you better come out and enjoy the last bit of summer heat while you can! Tonight features local touring emo superstars Our Lady, who will be playing their first show since Black Sheep Fest. Let’s all come out and show our support! There are also a couple of touring bands on this show. There will be the talented screamo band Lord Snow from Chicago. They just put out a new full-length which you can check out below. Lord Snow will be touring with My Dad. Who’s dad? Nobody’s dad, the band My Dad! My Dad played at Black Sheep this past February, so this will be their return show. Also playing this show is Dumb Fest band Yusuke from Bloomington/Peoria IL. They were the first band to play on the Skanks stage of Dumb Fest in June. To top that all off we have the newer Springfield band Mystery Gift opening up the show for us. All of that should be loads of fun.
