Tonight at Black Sheep: Southtown Sound One Year Anniversary

How’s it going everyone? Tonight is a pretty special night going down at Black Sheep and Southtown – tonight we are celebrating one year of Southtown Sound in operation. There are a whopping six bands performing tonight all as a showcase of bands that have recorded in Southtown Sound over this past year. At the top of the bill is the bottom bracket, Bottom Bracket. They released a five-song self titled EP recorded at the studio last summer. We also have Ghoul Jr. from Champaign. The band recorded a four song release in the studio last year, which you can find on the player below. Before them is Taylorville’s own Stick People. You know you love them. Monterrey from North West Indiana is also playing who also recorded in the studio this past year. Spell Breaker is also playing – the Springfield band that has evolved and grown so much over the years with a very unique sound of their own. Opening things up is Rockford – a band that has recorded in the studio but has not yet released any recordings!!!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Radiation Risks, Spell Breaker, No Cash Value, Foam Fangers

Tonight at Black Sheep we have a real treat of a punk show lined up! We have the band Radiation Risks coming all the way from Buffalo New York. Stream some of their music on the player below. They play some real rock n’ roll infused punk with a saxophone. Also on the show before them is Spell Breaker from right here in Springfield. Then we have the second ever Black Sheep performance by the next big thing from Jacksonville, Illinois – the young punk band “No Cash Value“. Opening things up is a performance by a brand new Springfield punk band featuring members of Synzu called “Foam Fangers.”

Tonight at Black Sheep: Runaway Brother, Bottom Bracket, Glower, Sadface Killer

We have a string of shows happening at Black Sheep all starting tonight! That’s right – a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday block of shows coming your way. Then there’s a house show elsewhere in Springfield on Monday. Tonight we have the return of Runaway Brother from Cleveland, Ohio. This will be the group’s third time performing at Black Sheep as a full band- the last being last July. You can stream Runaway Brother’s music on the player below. Also on this show is Springfield heavy hitting emo group Bottom Bracket. Before them is the new-ish Springfield indie garage band Glower. Opening things up we have the emo / math rock band Sadface Killer from Peoria, Illinois.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Juiceboxxx, Livin’ Thing, Animals With Human Names, Dennis DNO

It may be Monday but tonight at Black Sheep there is a rare hip hop / punk hybrid show happening. Tonight we welcome touring artist / musician Juiceboxxx into Black Sheep as he performs with his full backing band. Juiceboxxx has been a touring rap artist for over a decade now. You can stream his newest album on the player below. Also on this show is a return of the rock n’ roll band Livin’ Thing. Up before that is local hip hop artist Animals With Human Names. Opening things up right now is a brand new rap artist based out of Springfield – Dennis DNO.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Monterrey, Master Bastard, Famous Losers, Mike Butler

Tonight! It’s Thursday night and there are a lot of shows happening on our radar around the country! We do have one going on at Black Sheep tonight, and if you are in town you should come out! For this show we have the band Monterrey coming from North West Indiana. You can stream their music on the player below to see if you like what you hear. They will be joined by local rock band from right here in Springfield – Master Bastard. Then also another band from Jacksonville, Illinois – Famous Losers. Great to see all of these bands from Jacksonville lately! Opening things up is Mike Butler formerly of the band Vonne. Come hear Mike’s beautiful voice.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Marbin

We do have a show lined up for you all happening tonight! It’s a little different than our normal show setup because we just have one band performing for the night. That is Marbin – the progressive jazz-rock fusion band from Chicago. You can stream one of Marbin’s songs on the player below to hear more of what they are all about. We hope you all are ready to get your faces melted tonight.

This show is also a little bit different because there are advance tickets being sold. The show is $12 in advance and $15 at the door (all ages still of course). Tonight at Black Sheep: Prowes, No Cash Value, This Is A Stick Up!, Glower

Thanks to all who came out to the acoustic show last night, now we’ve got another one happening tonight! This one is more in the punk direction- for this one we have a lineup of bands from the area, a lot of them newer. Prowess will be making a return it looks like – playing a show here for the first time this year. Nice. Up before them is a newer band from nearby in Jacksonville, Illinois called “No Cash Value“. We also have another new band coming from Decatur called “This Is A Stick Up!”. You can stream one of their new songs “The Spaghettisburg Address” on the player below. Opening things up looks like is Springfield/Bloomington alternative-punk band Glower (pronounced as in “flower” but with a “g”).

Tonight at Black Sheep: Doby Watson, Tom Irwin, Kate Laine, Heck, Whitney Devine

Tonight we are happy to be featuring this *chill* acoustic show at Black Sheep with a good handful of our favorite musicians and friends. It’s going to be a nice acoustic / folk one, great for the whole family. Our touring artist on the bill is Kansas City’s own Doby Watson, and friend of The Black Sheep’s for many years. You can check out Doby’s newest material on the player below. And what do you know it looks like for this show we are blessed to have Springfield legendary and long time performer Tom Irwin joining us! Hi Tom! Up before that is the classic and very busy solo artist Kate Laine. Before that is “HECK” which is the project of Hannah Songer from Bloomington, Illinois. Opening things up we have Whitney Devine also from right here in town.
