February 1st at Black Sheep: Dirt Wizard, Hope For Now, Witchweed, Loses The Mighty, Remmington

1497744_10152485867054908_802268651_nHappy New Year everyone! 2014 is going to be a very busy year for Black Sheep and South Town, with the coming of Dumb Records in just a few days, and a new recording studio/practice space. Here is a show happening on Saturday, February 1st. It features a new stoner/rock band Dirt Wizard from Peoria, Illinois. You can check out some of their heavy tunes on the player below. Then we have Central Illinois post-hardcore band Hope For Now. This show will also feature the return of Witchweed to Black Sheep. They play doom/stoner/sludge and come from the cities of Taylorville and Pawnee. The show will also feature Central Illinois band Loses The Mighty, who are also playing January 24th at Black Sheep. To top that all off we have Remmington, a newer Chicago-area band featuring members of NEED.

January 24th at Black Sheep: Deviant, Loses The Mighty, Airacobra, Your Phobia, Trapped In A Painting

Are you all ready to dive into the new year? We already have a large amount of shows lined up at Black Sheep for 2014 and today we are telling you about this one happening on Friday, January 24th. This show will feature Deviant from all over Central Illinois. They play a melodic type of hardcore. We also have newer band Loses The Mighty also from various parts of Central Illinois. You can check out their demo streaming on the player embedded below. Then we have a scary rock n’ roll band called Airacobra from parts unknown. Try not to get bit by the Airacobra! There is another band playing called Your Phobia. Very spooky! Last but not least the band Trapped In A Painting will be playing this show. They are from Decatur.

Well today we are coming back at you to tell you about the full lineup for this incredibly awesome and rockin’ show that is going to be happening on Thursday, January 9th! As you know, this show will feature Mobile Death Camp, which is a rock band featuring “Beefcake the Mighty” of GWAR. There will also be a great lineup of local bands on this show! We have Sunnyvale, which is a Springfield band that will be playing their very first show at Black Sheep! We also have Table Drama, who might be stirring up some trouble with some of the other bands. Will they take on battling Mobile Death Camp? Come to the show and find out. Come to the show for a chance to also catch the rowdy punksters in RDNT. Also playing this show is ska-punk madness band Say Something, who are currently working on recording some new material.

January 6th at Black Sheep: Wolf Luv, NEED, Back To Back, The Oswalds

379708_10202514935662377_573808523_nOn Monday, January 6th we will be hosting our second show of 2014 at Black Sheep and it is going to be a real punk one. We will be having the touring band Back To Back come and play at Black Sheep. They are from Houston, Texas and play short and sweet punk songs that you can find streaming below. Next up on the lineup is NEED from Champaign and Chicago. The last time NEED played in Springfield was during Dumb Fest, where they performed inside Skank Skates next door. Also playing this show is the fierce “asswolf” and his gang, Wolf Luv. If you like seeing bands fronted by real live wolves, then this is the show for you. To top this all off we have the second show ever of Springfield’s newer punk band The Oswalds.

January 18th at Black Sheep: Petcock, Set Piece, Dead Zebbra, Dog of Panic, A New Way To Breed

It looks like with our Dumb Records January 10th/11th grand opening that we announced yesterday that Dumb Records will be up and running just in time for this show on Saturday, January 18th! This show is going to be a real rocker in the year 2014. Just look at that futuristic flier up there! This show will feature Springfield rock band Petcock. We also have the progressive-rock band Set Piece. Right smack dab in the middle of this awesome lineup is the three-piece hard rock band Dead Zebbra. You can check out a live video of them below. This show will also be the return of three-piece rock band Dog of Panic, who played at Black Sheep almost exactly one year ago. To top that all off we have a touch of metalcore on this show from the newer Central Illinois band A New Way To Breed.

All of that and a night full of fun will start at Black Sheep at 6:00 pm this time, with admission $9 and $7 in advance. More on the advance tickets will be posted on our shows page shortly. You should also check out our shows page to see what else we have coming up at Black Sheep next year!

 

Park Announces Another Springfield Show

559861_638718599505293_622115828_nReunited Springfield/Chicago band Park have announced anther show, making this their second show in Springfield since they announced their reunion earlier this year. This show is happening on Saturday, December 21st and it is going to be at Marly’s Pub downtown. This show does coincide with part of Black Sheep’s holiday weekend, but that is okay because this show is starting later (doors at 8:30 pm). Other bands playing include Looming (who will also be playing at Black Sheep that night) and The Sun & The Sea. This show is $8 and ages 21+ but don’t worry for those of you youngsters! We have caught word that Park will be planning at least one all ages show in Springfield sometime next year. Park has also been busy recently recording a new EP as well as gearing up to record a full-length album.

January 9th at Black Sheep: Mobile Deathcamp (ex-GWAR)

MDCWe are VERY excited to announce a VERY cool show. Mobile Deathcamp is making a stop at Black Sheep on their upcoming tour! Mobile Deathcamp, which features Beefcake the Mighty of the legendary spacealien-core band GWAR, is going to bring their brutal trash/speed metal sound to Black Sheep on the 9th of January.

We are still working out some of the details of the show, so keep an eye out for updates! Be sure to check out this link for details on all of our upcoming shows.

January 7th at Black Sheep: Dan Mariska, See Through Dresses, Wir Konnen, Mario Cannamela

313224_351298168278208_1681849593_nIt’s another show announcement for the new year! This show will be happening on Tuesday, January 7th 2014. Don’t miss it. This show will feature Dan Mariska’s full band project- Dan Mariska And The Boys Choir. Dan will be on tour from Minneapolis, Minnesota. You may recognize him from an earlier show he played this past May at Black Sheep. You can also check out some of their music on the player embedded below. Also on this show and on tour with Dan Mariska And The Boys Choir is the indie rock band See Through Dresses from Omaha, Nebraska. Time to see what we have for locals. This show will feature three-piece Springfield emo band Wir Konnen. It will also be the debut of Springfield native Mario Cannamela (Soap Scum, Borealis).

Kevin Greenspon and Big Waves of Pretty Added To 12/9 Show

Today we have a little update to one of our shows happening in December that was previously announced. We have two bands that have been added to the show at Black Sheep on Monday, December 9th. Those bands are… Kevin Greenspon and Big Waves of Pretty! They are both on tour together so we are going to help them out with a place to play and show them a good time. Kevin Greenspon is a touring musician from Los Angeles, CA. We have been told that is set will be accompanied by some visual arts involving a projector, so be sure not to miss it. Big Waves of Pretty (pictured above) come from Highland, Wisconsin and you can check out some of their tunes on the player below.

December 19th – 21st: Black Sheep Holiday Weekend

Well guess what, there is not just one holiday show but THREE holiday shows at Black Sheep happening back to back to back. These are all happening on Thursday December 19th, Friday December 20th, and Saturday December 21st. That’s a lot of holiday shows packed into one weekend! Let’s do a quick rundown of each of the shows:

Thursday, December 19th: This show will feature the shoegaze/sludge project Caterpillar Club. We also have a special surprise guest band coming from Belleville, Illinois and that is Cinema Verite! Check out some of their music on the bandcamp player embedded at the bottom of this post. This show also has post rock band Meredosia, who will also be playing at Black Sheep this Sunday. Opening things up we have a new local band that has not yet played at Black Sheep! They are called The Science Of and they are a powerpop band from Virden and Gerard.

Friday, December 20th: This is a show that we’ve already told you about! Bands playing are Full Chroma, Built In A Day, Montagh, and Yogi Beara. Check out our original post on the show right here.

Saturday, December 21st: Are you ready to hear about the grand finale for our series of holiday shows? Here it is! On Saturday, December 21st we have pop punk all stars Hospital Job. Also playing is the new indie/punk band that has been stealing the hearts of everyone all over town, Looming. For this show we also have a surprise guest and that is the band Ravenhill from Nashville, Tennessee. To top that all off we have local folk punx Lovecow also on the show.
