Record Store Day April 18th at Dumb Records

Looks like there are some pretty great things cooking up in Southtown for Record Store Day 2015, which will be happening this year on Saturday, April 18th! This year Dumb Records is an official Record Store Day store, and you can check out our official page on the Record Store Day site right here! This means that Dumb Records will be getting in a number of exclusive titles and releases for this special day. We can not say at this point what any of them are going to be, but you can look at this (very long) list of exclusive titles on the RSD website (which we won’t be getting close to all of). In addition to the RSD releases, everything non-RSD in the store (including new and used items) will be 10% off.

On top of all of that fun stuff, there will also be a four-band show happening inside Black Sheep at 3:00 pm to go along with Record Store Day. For that we have the long-awaited return of Central Illinois pop punkers, Horrible Things. Stream some of their music below. We also have three-piece Springfield/Bloomington/Champaign emo project Wir Können. We also have Slam Dinner and a newer Bloomington/Normal band called Unhappy Gilmore. Admission for the show is $5.

April 20th at South Town Studio: WARRS, F///\\\M, Gadzooks The Boy, Gazeebo

South Town Studio have just announced their next show happening in the space and it is a wacky one! This one is another Monday night studio show, happening on Monday, April 20th (4-20). This show features all bands and noise projects that partake in straight-edge lifestyles (check out this Wikepedia article if you want to read up more on what that is all about). On the bill we have the newer hardcore/screamo band WARRS, who are also currently working on their first release at South Town Studio. We also have the one-man post-rock project called F///\\\M featuring Brandon Carnes of South Town Studio himself. Then we have a noise project from Champaign/Urbana called Gadzooks The Boy featuring Jake Mott of Single Player, Wolf Luv, Dino Bravo, and many more bands. Check out a preview of Gadzooks The Boy streaming below. Opening things up is a *very rare* noise set by Gazeebo– featuring Drew Kodrich of Asthma.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5 (no, you do not have to claim straight-edge to come to this). There will also be a bake sale of some sort to benefit Black Sheep. April 24th at Black Sheep and Dumb Records: Diaper Rash, Evan Mitchell, Falter, Daren Gratton, Leech Pit

Coming up in about one month on Friday, April 24th we will be hosting a show that is going to be back and forth between Dumb Records and Black Sheep- Dumb Fest-style. There are five acts playing- three will be inside Black Sheep and two will be inside Dumb Records. We will be alternating venues as bands go. Headlining the bill on the Black Sheep side we have the dirty baby-fronted hardcore/thrash band Diaper Rash. Then on the Dumb Records end of things we have Evan Mitchell, ringleader of the One Man Band Bonanza that took place earlier this month. Before that inside Black Sheep is our touring band, Falter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Falter have played here a number of times and you can stream some of their music below. Also from out of town (St. Louis) and playing on the Dumb Records stage is Daren Gratton of the band of the Haddonfields. Opening things up on the Black Sheep end of things is a brand new punk band called Leech Pit! Come early to find out who is in that new project.

May 9th At Black Sheep: Abyss, The Science Of, Fill In The Blank, 8th Street Ahead

16720179831_cf492b20fb_oComing up in a few months on Saturday, May 9th at Black Sheep we have another all-local rock gig featuring four rock bands from the area. This includes the heavy rock band Abyss, which you can find one of their teaser videos embedded below. We also have pop punk/alternative band The Science Of, who have not played at Black Sheep in quite some time – looks like since last August. Also on the bill is the pop punk band Fill In The Blank from the Central Illinois area. And last but not least we have a band called “8th Street Ahead” also playing.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. There isn’t a facebook event for this one, but you can still check out our shows page for a complete look at all of our shows scheduled at Black Sheep coming up.

April 10th at Black Sheep: Hospital Job, Say Something, Like… With Jetpacks, Paqui

This includes the pop punk band Hospital Job, who put out their second LP The Believer on It’s Alive! Records last year. You can find that album streaming below. Then we have the hectic punk band Say Something also on the bill, bringing a whirlwind of circle pits. Before them is the instrumental video game-themed band, Like… With Jetpacks. They will melt your faces. Opening things up is a set by the solo/acoustic act Paqui!

March 27th at Black Sheep: Better Friend, C Is For Cadaver, Honey/Suck, The Incorporated

In less than ten days, on Friday, March 27th we have a show to announce that is coming up QUICK here at Black Sheep that will feature a nice mix of indie rock, acoustic, and spoken word among other things. For this show we have the Lincoln, Nebraska alternative rock group Better Friend coming to perform (pictured above). You can check out some of Better Friend’s music streaming below. Also on this show is acoustic solo act called C Is For Cadaver featuring one member of The Incorporated. Speaking of The Incorporated, the Litchfield-based rock group will also be playing this show! To top all of that off we have a set from Springfield spoken word act called Honey/Suck.

March 16th at South Town Studio: King Worm, Callan Aster, Molly’s Worst Enemy, Condor & Jaybird

It’s about time for another South Town Studio show to spring up, and this one is springing up just in time for the spring to come around and the weather to start getting warmer in a couple of weeks. This show is actually only eleven days away, happening on Monday, March 16th. This will be a good four band studio show. It will feature Springfield hardcore band King Worm, which has been getting great reviews in zines all across the country recently! We also have the touring pop punk band Callan Aster from Bloomington, Indiana! Then there are a couple of touring acts from Quad Cities, Iowa also on this show. The first of those is Molly’s Worst Enemy, whose music you can find streaming below. The second is the experimental band called Condor & Jaybird. And that folks, is the whole show.

The studio show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. With entry to the show you will be given an mp3 download of each set from the night, recorded live by Brandon Carnes of South Town Studio! May 15th at Black Sheep: Ænimus, Shapist, WRVTH, Kharybdis, Noesis, Made From Myths

Looks like on Saturday, May 15th we will be hosting a show at Black Sheep so packed with metal that it is bursting at the seams. This show will feature a pretty big touring metal package, so get ready. We have the band Ænimus playing technical metal from California (pictured above). You can check out one of their music videos below. Then there is the St. Louis progressive metal band called Shapist, who are on Valkyrie Records. Then also touring with is the technical death metal band WRVTH from Northern California. Then we also have a good chunk of local metal bands. We have the metal band Kharybdis, who are making a big comeback as a local metal band since last spring. Also on this show is the Central Illinois-based metalcore band Noesis. And opening things up we have Made From Myths from Lincoln, Illinois.

March 7th at Black Sheep: Jess Knight, Wir Können, Paqui

Looks like on Saturday, March 7th we have a short and sweet three band show that will be our only show happening that weekend at Black Sheep. (Check out that sweet flier up there designed by Cory VanMeter). This show will feature a solo acoustic performance by Jess Knight of Looming. This show will also feature three-piece Springfield emo band Wir Können. Stream some of Wir Können’s music below. We also have Paqui playing some solo acoustic tunes for us. Those are all the acts for now, but we have been told to keep an eye and ear out for one more to-be-announced!

March 15th at Black Sheep: Temple, Statures, Au Revoir Reverend Green, WARRS

Looks like coming up on Sunday, March 15th we have a show happening here at Black Sheep that will surely be great. For this show we have a good chunk of good out of town and touring bands that you should not miss. This includes the post punk band Temple from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. You can stream some of their music on the player below. Temples will be out on tour with the band Statures, who are also from Milwaukee and are also playing this show. Before that we have a brand new Bloomington/Normal, IL band called “Au Revoir, Reverend Green” which we have been told features members that there is a good chance you already know. Opening things up will be a performance by Springfield’s newest hardcore freakout band WARRS.
