SOHO Attempts To Break Record For “World’s Largest Rock Band”

1797432_414076412062081_1057814507_nWe are all about breaking records here in Springfield. It looks like on Saturday June 7th this year SOHO Music Festival Downtown will be attempting to break a world record for the world’s largest rock band! From SOHO’s website:

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the SOHO Music Festival, SOHO will be undertaking the monumental challenge of attempting to break a world record at this year’s festival by creating The World’s Largest Rock Band!

Every year SOHO receives more than 80 band submissions to perform, and while we would gladly showcase all who wish to contribute, our space is limited.  Therefore, in an effort to further our commitment in bringing the entirety of local musicians together, we are accepting the challenge of breaking the current record during SOHO10.

We’re looking for 600+ musicians to perform a three song set at
2 p.m. Saturday, June 7.  Songs will be determined at a later date (although rumor has it the Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” is a strong contender to close the set!)

If you are interested in being one of those 600+ musicians in the world’s largest band you can register with a $5 entry fee that comes with admission to the SOHO Music Festival. Find info on registration right here. SOHO Music Festival will be celebrating its tenth year this year on Friday June 6th and Saturday June 7th downtown. The lineup of bands for this year’s festival will be announced sometime in April.

Sunday at Brewhause: 19/20 Years of Tom Irwin

tomirwn

This Sunday at long running Springfield bar The Brewhaus, there will be a celebratory night honoring 20 years of Tom Irwin playing there on Sunday nights. The flier pictured above does say 20 years… but Tom might have miscalculated and it might be an actual 19 year celebration. From Tom’s column in The Illinois Times:

This Sunday we celebrate an anniversary at the Brewhaus. The venerable downtown bar opened in 1994 as the first of the new wave of downtown drinking and entertainment establishments. I’ve made a mathematical memory error for years now, always celebrating my events there as if I had started in 1993. But the light came, the darkness lifted and I’ve been shown the error of my ways and next year we will celebrate completing 20 years of live music at the same venue. But please come celebrate this Sunday as we begin the 20th year of yours truly at the Brewhaus nearly every Sunday at 7 p.m. with guests Murder of Crowes.

Tom Irwin has been a solo musician in Springfield for a while now as well as a columnist for the music section of the Illinois Times. There will be a show at Black Sheep on Sunday, but for those of you who are ages 21 and up you might want to head over to Brewhaus and celebrate 19 or 20 years of Tom Irwin. Their show starts at 7:00 pm and also features Murder of Crowes.

Tom Irwin was featured as a guest on The Black Sheep Radio Show earlier this month. You can download that entire episode right here.
