It looks like in just 18 days, the Kickstarter campaign for Project Southtown has reached it’s minimum funding goal of $5,000! This is HUGE news for us because it secures the money that has been donated and guarantees that our project to save some of our history and secure Southtown’s future will continue. Here is a message from George Sinclair owner of Skank Skates:

Hi Everyone,  We have made our milestone of 5 thousand dollars which means you get the Perks that you bid on and we get to use the money to establish our non profit Project Southtown!!!  This is a BIG Win Win for both of us in that we will be in a position to better serve you, and people can donate their time and money in a tax deductible way to help us all!  It took 18 days to get here, and we have 41 days to go.  At this rate we would raise another $11,388.88 for a grand total of $16,388.88.  With 16K we could do over 3 times the good which means that we would become a non profit, the video tapes would be digitized and available to everyone, the Black Sheep would get upgraded sound and light equipment, the ramp would get a new skin and all the rest of the spaces would get energy efficiency improvements.  So if you have already contributed pat yourself on the back and take the night off, and if you haven’t please plan to do so and keep this train on the tracks!

Don’t forget that the $5,000 was a minimum goal of the funding needed for us to take on this new project. Any additional funding will be greatly appreciated and can be used for many things. Another bit of news is that we have recently been granted permission and have submitted the paperwork for the recently torn down lot next to Dumb Records to be turned into a fenced-in community garden. Starting that garden alone will require additional funding. We still have 40 days until the end of our Kickstarter campaign, which you can donate to right here. We will also still be hosting the Black Sheep Cover Show Part 4 a week from this Saturday on May 23rd as a benefit for Project Southtown. Check out more info on that right here.

Since Project Southtown is also secured, we plan on giving out updates on how the project is going and more details on where the Kickstarter funding is going at least once a month. Keep checking back here for more updates!
