The State Journal-Register “WQNA DJs Raising Money To Keep Programs Available”

wQNADJS.jpg

Right at the top of the City & State section of this morning’s State Journal-Register was a big article about WQNA DJ’s getting together to raise money to continue programming as Springfield Community Broadcasters. Lovely! We are mentioned (Dumb Records) as a drop off for donations for the station, and also our radio program (The Dumb Records Radio Show) which plays local music and bands coming to town every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm. The paper interviewed Michael Goza who hosts “Blues Power” on Mondays on WQNA from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Here’s a bit from the article:

“We spent the last 20 years building up a pretty good rapport with the community,” Goza — who calls himself Michael G on the radio — said of WQNA. “It’s built a big following in the area. … We don’t want to see what we have started fade away.”

He said the importance of the station to the community was emphasized when equipment problems caused the station to go off the air for three weeks last winter. That generated, he said, “a lot of calls” from people wondering if the station would return.

The GoFundMe page says that money being raised would cover “licensing costs, equipment, and other necessary expenses toward establishing a functional community radio non-profit organization in Springfield. You can help us save community radio!”

Check out the full article online right here, or hurry up and grab yourself a physical copy of today’s paper somewhere! Quick!

And of course, you can head over to the GoFundMe page set up online right here to donate to the cause (which including cash and check donations is over $3,000 raised of a $35,000 goal). There will be more info regarding benefit events set up at various bars and venues around town including own in the near future. Dumb Records (418 E Monroe) is also a drop off for check and cash donations of any amount. Checks can be made to the Illinois Central Blues Club with “S.C.B.” (Springfield Community Broadcasters) written in the description. Also be sure to follow WQNA Community Radio on facebook right here.

If you play or have played in a local band or are a musician with any sort of recordings, chances are we have played you on the radio airwaves here in Springfield over the last nearly seven years we have been hosting our local show. Please donate so we are able continue playing local music that otherwise wouldn’t get played on the airwaves!
