The time is upon us yet again for another big Record Store Day event – the second biggest day of the year for us usually, Black Friday Record Store Day. This year Black Friday is happening on Friday, November 29th (the day after Thanksgiving). This will be our first Black Friday at our downtown location, and also our first holiday season go-around downtown so we are excited for what that and holiday walks might bring as far as traffic to our store goes! Here’s an FAQ section Record Store Day put together about Black Friday Record Store Day for those of you wanting to know more.
Today we are giving you a heads up on the full Black Friday Record Store Day list of releases that were released online very recently by Record Store Day. Check out that full list online right here.
This list is not everything we expect to be getting in our store, and we were not able to order everything on the list. We also can not do special orders off of this list. We will likely be releasing our (limited) list of titles that we ordered later on, and will also likely announce some sort of store-wide sale not just on Black Friday titles. We have three record stores in downtown Springfield now (here we all are pictured together). Usually Recycled Records participates in ordering exclusive titles as well.
The Springfield Business Journal has published an article on Good Heart Tattoos opening up next door to us here downtown. The article was published to their website about a week ago, and you can view it online right here. Here is most of the article where the Business Journal talked with owner Benny DeWitt below:
Good Heart Tattoos will be opening at the end of this month at 414 E. Monroe in downtown Springfield. Owner Benny DeWitt said he is in the process of converting the former Corso Jewelers space into an art studio, and a friend has already hand painted the storefront.
“I grew up in a sign painting and tattooing family,” said DeWitt, who has traveled the country tattooing and performing with various bands and more recently worked at tattoo shops in Springfield. “One of my goals for the new shop is to have a spot where traveling tattooers are welcome,” explained DeWitt, who said he will have multiple booths, even though he will be the only full-time artist for now.
DeWitt said he spends a lot of time downtown and was initially considering opening his shop in a portion of the space now occupied by Dumb Records. “I’ve been friends with Brian (Galecki) forever, and he needed more space than I did, so it worked out for me to be next door instead.” DeWitt noted that he is also longtime friends with Jeremy Bredemeyer, who owns Hair of the Dog Bar/Bershop across the street.
“I’m trying to help build a creative center down there,” he said.
The grand opening for Good Heart Tattoos is now set to happen on Saturday, November 9th in less than one month. More info on that can be found on a facebook event right here. Also be sure to follow Good Heart Tattoos to keep in the loop with what’s going on with the new tattoo shop.
Good morning! Happy Monday! What a better way to kick off the week other than with a really solid show going on at Dumb Records tonight! We didn’t have any shows this weekend, instead we have this going on tonight. Spowder is coming to town all the way from New Brunswick, New Jersey, sent to us by Screaming Females themselves straight through the mail. Stream their music on the player below. There is also a solid lineup of local acts performing tonight. This includes Master Bastard, who have recently released their second album. Also The Telephone Junkies, you can never go wrong with them. And then opening things up is a brand new Springfield band called “No Good Deed” which we know nothing about! We don’t even know who’s in it!
All of that starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for tonight right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a complete list of what’s coming up at our space!
