Guess what, it’s Friday so that means it’s another episode of The Dumb Records Radio Show!! Our show isn’t over until they pull the plug (which could be at any given point, but we’ll keep you all updated with any news regarding the status of WQNA as soon as we are able to). Today we are back on air, and continuing our streak of having special guests on with us every single time! Today’s guests are the band Reaver from Alton, Illinois playing at Dumb Records tonight! We’ll be talking with them halfway through the episode and playing plenty of their new album that just recently came out.

Tune in at our regular time from 4:00 to 6:00 pm today and every Friday on 88.3 WQNA FM, or online at wqnaradio.org! Also check out our radio page or Mix Cloud page to stream some recently recorded old episodes.

Shonen Knife (Japan) at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s September 30th

Screen Shot 2019-08-22 at 6.34.50 PM.pngA lot of you may have been dying to know what our secret international band we were trying to book at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s when we announced that we were looking for sponsors to make this happen earlier this summer. Well tonight we are letting the beans out of the bag! The show is happening Monday, September 30th and our big secret band is Shonen Knife from Japan!

Shonen Knife is an alternative rock band formed in Osaka, in 1981. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beach Boys, and early punk rock bands, such as the Ramones, the trio crafts stripped-down songs with simple, yet uncoventional lyrics sung both in Japanese and English.

From November 24 to December 11, Shonen Knife toured with Nirvana and Eugenious all over the UK for a total of nine shows and during the tour Naoko taught Cobain how to play “Twist Barbie”, which Nirvana covered live at one of their secret shows.

Of course we have to send out a big thank you to all of our sponsors that answered our call to help in donations to make this free to the public show a reality. Those sponsors are listed out here, support these businesses!

Grab-a-Java, Inc.

Shonen Knife will be touring this time around with an opener “The Hooten Hallers” which from our understanding have actually played Springfield at Bar None before, and they are from Missouri.

The start time for this event is going to be right at 6:00 pm (don’t be late)! It is free, but we will gratefully accept donations at the show and even before to make sure we have enough to cover costs of pulling this off (we did fall short of our goal with our sponsors, but are still to the point where it is happening no matter what). It’s the weekend and we just so happen to have two shows lined up these next two nights! Tonight! We have a mixed genre show of sorts going on. Looks like we’ve got the first metal band lined up in the new space(?), with Eyes From Above from in and around the area. Nice. The touring band on this show is Baltic To Boardwalk from Fargo, North Dakota, which is actually a band that has played Black Sheep some years ago. Stream some of Baltic To Boardwalk’s music on the player below. We’ve also got the Alton, Illinois emo group Reaver playing at the new spot for the first time (they had played Black Sheep a good number of times as well). Opening things up is hard and nasty hardcore group from right here in Springfield, Graveswitcher.

This show kicks off at 7:00 pm and it’s another $7 show. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a nice look at what else is coming up at Dump Records in the near future.
