July 5th at Bread Records: Looming, Great Expectations, Seaholm, Blue Parks

Here’s another great show for us to tell you about coming up at Bread Stretchers! This one happening on Friday, July 5th right after the fourth of July. This one is going to feature the one and only… full band performance of Looming (the first full band performance we have seen in Springfield in a minute). Wow! There are two touring acts from Michigan on this show. One of them is Great Expectations from Detroit, playing some emo type music that you can find on the player below. They will be on tour with another band called Seaholm from Ann Arbor. Opening this show up is a slow performance by Blue Parks, who may be going by the performance name of Body Forth.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is going to be a sliding scale of $5-10. You can check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Bread Stretchers shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at the show space next to us.

Downhome Music Festival Happening July 26th & 27th: Lineup Announcement

Here we are right in the middle of one of the major downtown summer music festivals (Legacy of Giving), and another major one – Downhome has just recently announced a good chunk of their lineup for this year’s festival. This year Downhome Music Festival is happening on Friday and Saturday July 26th and 27th. There’s a total of 28 bands that we count on the flier above announced so far and potentially a few more coming later (the flier says 30 bands total). This is the ninth year of Downhome. Here’s a description from their facebook event:

The 9th Annual Downhome Music Festival will be held on July 26 & 27, 2019 at the corner of 7th and Washington in downtown Springfield, Illinois. The event will feature all local, original live bands (4 stages – constant music). There will be local food vendors, 100 different craft beers, as well as a kids area for the little ones.

Looks like the festival has long time heavy hitting punk rock groups NIL8 and The Timmys on board… also some very rare performances from other original / alternative rock Springfield groups that only come so often from Park and Mr. Opporknockity.  You might spot a couple of bands more familiar to the Dumb Records / Black Sheep stage on that lineup suck as Stick People or Kate The Band. Looks like an all around good time.

Check out a facebook event for Downhome Music Festival right here. You can also check out their website, Downhomemusicfest.com.

Dumb Records might be involved with some aftershows this year for the festival – stay tuned for more info on that!

Tonight at Dumb Records: Creative Earth Art Show

It’s another very busy Saturday in downtown Springfield. The farmer’s market is going on this morning as it does every Saturday, and Legacy of Giving Music Festival starts back up at noon and goes all night long. We are involved with one of the official aftershows for the festival and are also hosting our very first art show: The Creative Earth Art Show. Our Earth is very creative. For this art show, there is also a show of four acts happening in our space as well, and the music starts at 6:00 pm. We have L.O.G. fest band Fuzzlove playing this as an aftershow. In addition to Fuzzlove, music and poetry acts of the night are going to come from Cody Jones, Hope Fiend, and Shatriya Smith. Hope Fiend is actually a band from the Carbondale area, which we did not realize until recently! Stream some of their music on the player below. Ready for the list of visual artists participating? Here we go…

Melanie Edmondson
Lindsey Nelson
Devin Larson
Claudia Knight

There you have it! The whole event goes on at our space from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. It’s free, we will just be taking donations for the traveling bands at some point. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at our space in the near future.
